Reclast

I had a Reclast infusion, June 29, 2009. That night, (about 8 hours afterwards) I woke up feeling severe aching in ALL my joints, and nauseous. I got up from bed, and didn't make it to the bathroom - I projectile vomited/had diarreah at the same time... and from there it was totally downhill ... Did not stop vomiting and having acute diarreah forthe next four days. Could not keep in even a sip of water... on the 3rd day my husband took me to the local ER. They gave me an IV, some Zofram, and sent me home on oral zofram. within 3 hours of going home, I was back in the ER, completely dehydrated yet again. The did the same thing, sent me home yet again... Mind you, I have lupus, take steroids for it for over 15 years, so am now adrenal insufficient. Also have seizures from CNS lupus, take meds for that, too... was unable to take ANY of my meds for 4 days... by the time my DH contacted the doctor on call for my doctor, I was totally out of it... He had my husband take me to the larger, teaching hospital in the area, admitted me for FIVE days... I really had no idea where I was/who I was the first 24 hours there... All I will say is, it was the WORST experience of my life... well maybe the second worst, anyhow... I almost died. The Doctor who sent me to the ER told my husband I more than likely only had another 12-24 hours left, I was THAT sick... and if we had listened to the doctor in the local er (he told my husband to bring me home and just put me back in bed and let me sweat/vomit/poop it out over the next few days!!!!!), I would not be here today. Thank goodness the covering doctor asked my husband the RIGHT questions ! Reclast? NEVER again! (my doctor jokes with me every time I go in now.. asking me if I'm "ready" for my next infusion.... NOT)

Had a Reclast infusion in December 2010. Since then, I experienced minor joint pain and some wierd feelings in my back. In May 2011, I experienced losing weight, having fevers at night at about 101 or 100. This started to scare me so I callled my doctor to see if I could get a cat scan. Sure enough, there was a problem with lymph nodes. Had a biopsy and it turned out to be a rare type of lymphoma. I don't know what the correlation is but I have a feeling that Reclast may have triggered something in my system. My family is cancer free and this was a shock to me.

I have one round of chemo, and I want to reassure you, it wasn't the easiest thing that I've done in my life. Is anyone else out here with some of these symptoms? I wouldlike t know

2 months after injection .
I want to say I was extremely ill the day, about 10 hours afterwards , I got my Iv infusion of this medication . About 10 hours after the IV infusion I became very sick , Flu like symptoms , 103.6 temperture , thought I was going to have a seizure ,Hard chills and the fever . Lasted about 4 days ! I called my Doctor the nurse said this was normal , to have Flu-like symptoms , I never had Flu like this in my life .

Week or so later ,I started having these symptoms , At first was just my ankles now my knee is making a clicking snapping sound .I am getting concerned about this . For this has been going on since , Sept 17 ,2011.
I have never had a fracture ,broken bone in my body .When I have this snapping ,makes me think , the bones are weak and I am about to have a fracture . Now, I have , noticed it hurts to step down at times , Any one experiencing this ? I would not recommend this medication to anyone , women older , older than I !
I am 53 yrs old , 5'6 ,170 lbs. I consider my health very good ,Thank God ,no hypertension ,no diabetes , Someone older may have a hard time pulling out of the side effects . Stay away from this medication ,Take your calcium eat yogart , supplys 50 % calcium , and pray God to be your healer . Is . 53:5 . Amen .

Has anyone had problems with their joint replacements since taking reclast?

I was very sick with Flu like symtoms for 4 days .Now my bones are making a popping clicking sound ,don't know what that is all about ?

i was very unsure about reclast but the specialist was very pushie about me tring it,when i read up on it everything negative ( as far as reviews) my doc said don"t go by reviews.aftre 2 mths i decided ok ill give  it a try.i have severe osteoporis,fybromynalia & artrithis.i arrived at hospital clinic at 9:30 with my boyfriend about 20 mins later nurse called us in room,i was sitting in a chair she put a pillow under my arm & put iv in a few seconds later started "reclast" meds...4 mins into it i told her it burned bad & i felt sick seconds later my boyfriend said i passed out the nurse pulled iv out was yelling for the other nurses my blood pressure & vitals dropped they made boyfriend leave room because my vitals dropped & i went into seizure nurse kept saying get her to er vitals dropping we are lossing her they put me on bed & ran down to er.after 30mins my vitals back to normal..but no one in er was educatted about reclast ,side effects or  etc,they had to look up on computer.i was released 4 hrs later.my family doc very upset because the specialist asked me "if i consider to give it another try!!!!!!! is he crazy!!!! i have had bad pain in my arm they injected meds in,can barely move it & problems with jaw pain.thank god i didnt get full 15 mins worth of meds. please please really think twice about this medication.not enough info into it.

Had a Reclast almost one year ago.  No problems. Will know soon if it has helped me as much as the previous 2 years of daily forteo injections.  Definitely more convenient.

Had a treatment on Tuesday..within 24 hours was flat on my back.   My knee hurts so bad I can hardly walk.  I was in great condition prior-training for a 5K.  I'm really concerned about recoverying from these syptoms!

Can anyone say how long these side effects will last???

I received Reclast infusion - no side effects for 6 days, other than a headache. On the 7th day after, I woke up, my neck was so stiff, could not turn it either way. My entire left side was affected. It was like I had be shot full of arthritis, my fingers were to stiff to bend. I fell terrible, the pain is intense.  Today is 11 days after injection, I feel some better, still can't move my neck, but can bend fingers with a lot of pain.  My Dr. says this in normal. The headaches have been awful.

Muscle aches and pain since Fe.18,2011. When can I expect some relief?

I also had my first and last Reclast in Dec. 2010.  Having all kinds of joint and bone pain and last week my hair started breaking off and falling out.  I started Folic Acid to try and help.  Do not know if it will grow back.  Reclast is bad stuff and should be looked into.

Please do not allow anyone to talk you into this drug again. I had my Reclast infusion in 2009 and I've also experienced the wild blood pressure fluctuations along with developing severe bone spurs throughout my body and painful, crippling Osteoporosis. I also experienced blood clots and heart attack 12 days after the infusion of Reclast. My health has gone down hill progressively for the past 2 years. I also have developed double vision and severe GERD. To anyone being urged by their doctor to have any of the bisphosphonate drugs, I suggest you first do extensive research on the side effects.  These drugs are definitely deadly! 

Ok had my reclast infusion last wed feb 23 2011., was fine wed,thurs,and friday then sat morning after taking morning pills i gotto itching so bad i couldnt stand it took 3 dozes of benedryl, washed with anti-itch cream took sithe bath it lasted 3 hours well finally stopped then today-sunday it did it again and this time to er i went. i couldnt do anything but scratch.... and the itching was so bad i was crying it was worse than the allergic reactions ive had in past so got a shot of adreneline and steriod and sent home had to take benedryl an hour later but finally stopped. dont know if its just the reclast or could it be reclast reacting to one of my meds. i hope it doesnt happen again, cause tell ya todr. i go right away... has anyone had this happen

Reclast side effects ~ one day after infusion: flu-like symptoms and dramatic aching in bones and all over body ~ so far; slight let-up with Tylenol.

about 6 weeks after I got Reclast I got pains in my groin and hip. Is that a coincidence or is it possible to have these symptoms so long after the infusions. It is now 5 months and I now have pain in both hips, back and tingling in my feet and one elbow. How long can I expect thses side effects to Last?

I had a root canal last week and the Endodonist was very concerned that I had Reclast.
He is uncertain if my new bridge that I will need will be alright. I will also need a crown soon.
I think more info should be explained. I wish I had done more research.

Is it true that if you have a tooth pulled after you have had Reclast, you will have a degenerating jaw?

Was leery going in but felt I had beaten the odds. Got my first Reclast Thursday PM, then awoke that night with severe vomiting! Thpught maybe they had given me chemo instead of the Reclast. It is now 4 days later and am still feeling bad effects from this infusion; severe headache, muscle and joint pains, etc.. Will not do again!!!

i had my second infusion in june i have had swollen glands and joing pain and its been almost 3 weeks.my first i was sick for a month.

I have had 3 injections of Reclast and while I haven't had many of the side effects others experience, I am having serious problems with my teeth and the surrounding bone. I had a tooth extracted and was unable to have an implant due to the effects of Reclast in the adjoining bone. I had a bridge put in about 6 weeks ago and I am now having pain with one of the teeth that was crowned and had had a root canal in December. I will not take any more treatments and only hope that I am not going to have serious problems with the rest of my teeth. I wish that I had done the research before any treatment. Also, Reclast didn't really help me, as my osteopenia remained the same,

Has anyone else had three treatments of Reclast, which similar problems?

I had the Reclast IV on December 23, 2007. The next day I couldn't walk my right hip was killing me, I had to drag my leg. On June 6, 2008 I had to have a total right hip replacement. On March 4, 2009 I had to have a total left hip replacement. On April 26, 2011 I had a total left shoulder replacement. I was in great shape before the IV. I never had any problems with any of my joints. until RECLAST!!

I know exactly how you feel.

Took Reclast on 3/02/11 - on 03/08/11 woke up to severe pain- like I had been infused with arthritis. It was very painful for about 2 wks & got some better. By the end of March, I began to experience severe burning-stinging pain in both legs and both arms. Went to an Internest- checked artiers in legs, blood flow was good. He sent me to a Vascular Dr. He tested nerves in legs- could find nothing wrong. It is the end of June, 2011. My legs and arms pain has gotten worse. I find it hard to walk .In pain all the time.
I need help- there has to be relief somewhere. :'(

I had my first infusion last week. I was given extra strength tylenol before it even began and was told to take it again at night. The infusion did not bother me at all and was over so fast that I had no time to even read the book I had brought with me. I was fine until the next evening when I began having chills. By morning it was over and I was left with aching and tight calves, which went away the next day. It's been exactly a week and thank God I am feeling good. I am afraid that any future pain I have I will blame on the reclast when it's not the reason for it. I wish I didn't read all the negative effects it might have.Sometimes the internet is more harmful!

Had serious side effects. Pain in bones and muscles. Still after 4 months have pain.

I've been in pain since I had Reclast injection. I am 55 but i feel like I'm in my 80'ies. I ache constantly in all of my joints below the waist. Prior to Reclast, I was at the gym 10 to 12 hours a week, now I can hardly go at all. I've gained 10 pounds and I hurt everywhere, J.Smith

Had reclast injection December 2010. Recommended by my oncologist. I have hurt everywhere ever since. Nothing relieves the pain. I was very active, (2 hours gym daily and personal training twice a week). Now I can barely get up from a chair without constant pain. My knees hurt constantly as well as my right hip and the left side of my neck. I felt great before the Reclast, I'm only 55 but I feel like I'm pushing 70. J. Smith

All this scares me. my doctor insists I get the injection. I have osteoporosis and she says it's a choice of falling and breaking a hip or the reclast. I can't take boniva or other oral meds like it because I've got gerd and they upset my chest. A doctor I know told me that her best friend suffered 6 months with painful symptoms after receiving the reclast injection. He eventually died but she thinks it was from another illness he had. She wouldn't advise it, but what real alternative is there for full blown osteoporosis! Is there anyone out there who has a clue?

Aug.4, 2010 I had the Reclast infusion. First noticable problems started in October. Swollen ankle- joint pain to the point I felt like I had broken something. I couldn't raise my arm for 3 days and then it would move to the other arm. Groin pain. Needless to say I haven't been the same since. Luckily I haven't had to go to the hospital, but I have missed more work than I've ever missed in my life. It's changed my healthy life into a life of wondering where the pain is going to show up next. I've started going to a Rheumotologist and he was upset that my Dr. had ordered Reclast. He also will not prescribe Fossamax. Just wish I had found him before the Reclast. Of course now I wonder if my Rheumotoid is associated with Reclast- My advice to anyone, read reviews first. Had I read them I would still be a healthy person, not one living day to day in pain. Now my potassium level is high and am wondering if that is the cause of it also. Would like to hear from anyone that is experiencing that also. I'm praying to God that after August most of this will be gone.

Had a 15 minute Reclast infusion in august 2010. Have spent the fall and winter experiencing horrible joint pain. This pain moved from lower back to shoulder, knee, ankle and now is in hips. I am upset with myself that I didn't do my research before I had Reclast. Would certainly have foregone the medicine. My Dr. assured me that he has had great results with this particular medicine. Hope these problems go away. I will never have a Reclast infusion again. Am 65 years of age and was full of life until the last few months and suffered no pain or discomfort. Now feel like an old woman and am resentful that a medicine has done this to me. On the upside, I took my Dr. a copy of the $5900. plus bill and he was furious. He said that was criminal and he would never reccommend Reclast again.

I recieved my 3rd reclast injection in Dec,2010. The first one made me have flu symtoms for a few days. Second one I had no side effects. This third one has been pure torture. It started with shoulder pain. Then it moved to my groin and thigh area. A few times I broke out in hives. I then got jaw pain.I got a UTI and became sepsis. Spent 4 days in intensive care. Still being treated for these side effects. Have to see a orthopedic surgeon next week. What upsets me most is the fact the doctors will not even consider the reclast as the cause.

Tell women not to take this drug.  I for see huge lawsuits in the future.  I may not live that long but it will happen!  I was told to report to the hospital for my infusion.  No one told me much about the drug before I took it.  The nurse who gave me the drug said I may experience flu like symptoms and to take an asprin when I got home.  As the day continued I started to get licks all over my body.  One area would move involuntaryly and then another.  Took the asprin the nurse told me to take, of course no help.  By the time I went to bed my whole body was moving and jumping around.  I remember thinking that if this is still going on in the morning I would contact my doctor.  I did NOT make it until morning.  During the middle of the night, alone in my house, I realized I was very sich and though I was dying.  I was able to contact 911 but do not remember anything after that phone call.  The medics have to break down the door to get me.  I woke up 3 days later, in the hospital since I was alone when this happened my family could not find me for those 3 days and was sure I was dead.  I had gone into Kidney failure.  They did not think I was going to make it when I arrived at the hospital.  When I called my family doctor about what happened, the nurse told me that they had contacted the drug rep before I had the IV because my creatin levels were a little high.  He told them, no problem I would do just fine.  Now it is almost a year later.  Have to be very careful that I take a lot of fluid or dyhyration happens.  My creatin blood levels can get very high.  I still regret ever using this drug.  Please, please if you know anyone one who is thinking on taking this drug, tell them to run as fast as the can in the other direction.  This drug is not safe!

The first 4 days after my treatment I had really bad flu symptoms.  High fever along with chills so bad my husband first thought I was having a seizure. Within 2 months all my bones started to hurt really bad.  My dr. tested me for lyme disease, rocky mountain spotted fever and rhumetoid authritis.  All came back negative.  It has now been 8 months since the treatment and nothing's changed.  The morning is the worst.  I'm 53 and my 89 year old mother can walk better than me.  The worst is in my feet, ankles and hands.  I already had a spinal fusion and have bad back problems so I don't know if that is responsible for the increase in pain there.  I also have gastric issues so I can not take the pills that are available for osteoperoisis.  Bottom line... TAKE THIS TREATMENT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!  AS FOR ME....MY FIRST WAS MY LAST!!!!

I am going to see my doctor today.  I need some answers.

My best friend had the Reclast infusion about 3 weeks ago. Today she is in the hospital. She was in the emergency room last week but they could find nothing wrong. Now she is anemic, liver function problems and a possible problem with her adrenal glands, high white blood cell count along with all of the other problems explained by others below. Her doctor never gave her any information about Reclast before giving her the infursion. Has anyone else had some of these more severe issues?

I had my first Reclast injection five days ago.  I didn't have any reaction until yesterday, when my neck and shoulders started aching.  This a.m. I could hardly get out of bed as my head felt like it was made of concrete, I had a severe headache,and my neck/shoulders were stiff  and hurt to move.  Could it the Reclast, after a delay of several days?  After pain meds I'm functioning better, but the neck/shoulder is still present.  My BP is higher than normal. 
I'm away from my PCP for a couple of months now, and wondering if I should be concerned

I had my reclast infusion 2 days ago.  Have had terrible pain, chest tightness, fatigue.  I didn't have the energy to go to church today, to play the piano.  I hope this is short term.  Pain killers so far is the only thing that helps.  Had some on hand from a few weeks ago.  You are in my prayers.

I am 48 years old, and had my first Reclast infusion yesterday (1-28-11).  My blood pressure was all over the place.  124/83, up to 145/92, 144/74, 148/99, and 126/76.  This was all in about 5 hours.  Left me very drained.  That night, around 8:30, terrible chills started.  Around 10PM, sore muscles, joint pain, and chest pain/tighntess.  I think from this point forward, I will just take calcium D.  I have been told that the 2nd yearly dose is not as bad.  Don't know if I am brave enough to try it again.

On Nov 3 2010 I had my first and last injection. It nearly killed me. the 4th I felt like i had the flu and layed around. The 5th I felt worse, really yucky, and on the 6th I had to be taken 911 to the hospital. I had a gastrointestinal bleed. which I'd never had before and I almost died. For about 4 days I was out of it, they actually thought maybe I was detoxing or something. None of the sort, I have not been the same since this reclast stuff. My bones hurt me so bad. Please if you value life do not take this stuff.

After my first (and last) experience with this drug, on January 5, 2011, I'm in pain. My back,my shoulder, my neck, my chest hurt. I'm taking pain killers to deal with the pain, but its not enough. Did someone had a better way ease the pain?

I had the reclast on Nov 23,2009. Will I ever be the same again????? Any reply would be appricated. Nothing but problems in my body that I never had before!!!!!! ANY ONE reading these post beware. I did read them thinking I was so healthy it would be a walk in the park. Not True DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I feel my once good life and all the sports I did are now just a dream of my passed life. I was hiking,riding and showing my cutting horses,my other show horses,swimmimg, now i can hardly walk on flat ground 2miles. I feel like I am going nuts. 

After the Reclast, I have not been able to sleep through the night. very bad joint and muscle pain. Bad at the base of my spine. Very hyper how and was not before,so many problems and went to the doctor said all my blood work was fine. I will never,never, have or use any of these types of drugs again. They should be band by the FDAC as not effective and to many,many side effects. Dose anyone know if I will go back to my normal self after the year or is there a way to get this drug out of my system any infor would be greatly appricated. Kind regards Miss Dee

I am on my third year of reclast injections. Yes, my bone density has improved but is worth it. Each time I had the injection it takes about a month and then I have back pain and cramping in my stomach, this goes on for about 2 months. Talked with the osteoporosis doctor and she states that it has nothing to do with the injection. This year I am not taking the injection.

Is it "common" for side effectsd to last 10 days or more? I had aches and pains all over within 18 hours of the infusion on 12/23 that went away after 3-4 days, but a few days later a different set of muscles are affected and I have had a headache for 4 days now. (I feel like I have a slipped disk or sciatica it is so bad)

I had Reclast and had minimal side effects. I did experience a headache one night ( if indeed tht was from Reclast) I had a temp of 99.4 one night.
This was a pleasant surprize since I have a very complicated medical history and many, many allergies.
We were all concerned but thankfully no problems.

The Reclast injection was in Aug.  I who usually visit the Dr. once a year was in either Convenient Care, ER,or the Dr's office 12 times in Sept.  It has been a horrible experience, 14 days in the hospital one time, visit to Mayos in Rochester, Pace Maker installed, violent chills, high fever (102.5) night sweats (change clothing and bedding 3-4 times a night), being rushed to CCU .   I will never again know the wonderful health I had before the infusion.   Also, huge hair loss. lung infection (removed 1 1/2 qts of fluid) severe head ache, loss 20 lbs, diarrhea.    Nothing good about the experience!

I had my first Reclast infusion last Thursday morning. I am a nurse so am on my feet a lot and at work Thursday evening I started having pain across the back of my shoulders that felt like both muscule and bone pain.  The next morning my whole body ached and just continued to worsen thru the day and evening that I worked. Friday night I was unable to sleep because of the muscle and bone pain mostly across my shoulders, across my hips and in my legs. I just prayed that this was not going to last a year.  Today my muscles still hurt but the bone pain has eased up a lot.  Has anyone else had this kind of reaction from Reclast infusion?

My mother recieved Reclast Injection on Dec. 30 2009 she was admitted to the hospital on Jan 6 2010 with heart failure and pneumonia.8 days later after I brought in my personal doctor he said it was Reclast .I kept telling the Drs that she had the Reclast and they looked at me like I was crazy. she has a fib and thyroid problems she should have never been given Reclast. after 2 weeks in the hospital she had to enter a nursing home for therapy for 10 days. she has not been the same since RECLAST SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET!!!

My mother had the reclase infusion last year Dec 29 and she exoerienced EVERY side effect they have listed.  She was in the hospital for two weeks and had every test imaginable-all results negative.  I lost her on May 16.  She only had one kidney.  She had donated one to her nephew.  It was healthy - she really babied it.  Kidney issues are oen f the reasons that reclyst should not be administered.  No Dr or drug company will ever admit it but they MURDERED my mother.

Had declare infusion after two years of daily injections of an other osteo med.
Befor leaving the site I had a severe headache. Then later for a week ran fevers and had chills Flu like symptoms muscle aches and bone poin I also had loose stools and 6months later continue with bone and muscle pain and skin sensitivity. Also had strange herpes like rash that was neg for herpes. Would never di it again. Can only tolerate sitting for short times.

I just admitted my 79 yr old mother to hospital....dehydration, dizziness (she fell last Jan and broke her neck so dizziness is always a potential problem), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.  She has very poor kidney function so should not have gotten Reclast in the first place.  Since she got it, her cardiologist has added a THIRD diuretic.  She suffers from A-fib which is another reason she should never have gotten Reclast.  The doctor says it will take a couple of days of IV's to rehydrate her.  They gave her Zofran for the nausea.  She got the shot on Nov 16th, 2010 and she has not felt well since and has gotten progressively worse and even passed out 3 days ago. I hope the doctors read the literature and do kidney function tests before they give Reclast.  My Mom also uses a walker or wheelchair because of Arthritis and muscle problems...also a contraindication or at the very least a GREAT BIG WARNING not to give Reclast. 

I agree with you. This drug HAS to be taken Off the market.. It is Awful and has serious side effects... I have read alot of these posts and I am worried sick because I AM experiencing severe pain in my back and legs, also terrible headaches. hOW ARE WE GOING TO GET THIS POISIN OUT OF OUR SYSTEM?

I have had 2 reclast IV,s. The first one 2 yrs ago was awful chills, fever, rib pain,awlful flu symptoms. They assured me after 48 hrs I woud feel better. I reluctantly took anouther one a year later and they were prepared and gavie me a steroid with it and benadryl. I had no ill effects the second time. I am due in a few months for another one, but not sure. I bone density scan was somwhat improved aftewards.

I took reclaspt on sept 3 2010 ,about 1.30 in the morning,I awoke with chills so hard I shook the bed. then it went into 102 fever. I went back and forth like that for 24 hrs. the two days later I couldn't stand on my right leg, ever time I put my foot on the floor severe musle or joint pain is so great ,I went to the dr, he is talking exrays, I have never had any pain in my leg before I took this. something has to be done Or I will have a lawyer real fast. I read these posts before my infusion and almost cancelled out of fear.  I decided to go ahead with it and made sure I was plenty hydrated.  I had absolutely no side effects. Had the infusion a month ago.

I HAD MY FIRST INFUSION TODAY AND AFTER IT WAS OVER AND MY VITALS WERE CHECKED AND MY BLOOD PRESSURE WENT FROM 140/80 TO 180/80. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF REACTION?

I had Reclast on Oct 27 and was fine....for 6 days anyway.  I have since had extreme pain in each shin bone that has now radiated to calves and heelsl and also both thumbs and palms of hands.  Legs are red and feverish.  Can barely stand up after being in a prone position.  Have been to Dr who says it's unusual for this to happen a week after.  After reading from all of your reports, it does not sound a bit unusual to me.  I am really mad at the drug co for letting people continue to be poisoned as it seems.  I had chemo 11 years ago for breast cancer and some of the meds I needed then gave me bone pain which was bad enough.  I was assured by several Drs any reactions would be nothing like that.  Well, that was also a lie.  Then I am really mad at myself. I thought I did enough research before having the infusion as I was highly skeptical.  I will be praying for all of us who have been sucked into this nightmare.  I was told with my Mother's history of osteoporosis, the chemo damage and my Bone density test I was not far from a broken hip.  Well being incapacitated with a broken hip at 53 is sounding better all the time now.

no side  effects. some bone pain at first i have actually lost some weight and feel great

My mother is a 91 year old who is being referred for a reclast infusion. I am concerned whether this is an appropriate treatment for someone her age.

My 71 year old Mother had the Reclast injection one month ago. She was a little tired the first couple of days afterwards but then seemed fine. On the 10th day after her injection she took her once weekly prescription vitamin D pill. Within 2 hours she began to suffer from vertigo and pain in her spine. This worsened throughout the day. She went to the ER that afternoon. Her blood pressure was elevated but all tests came back fine. She was given a prescription to treat the vertigo and told to take Aleve for the bone pain. She followed up with her primary doctor.  Within one week those syptoms improved but a severe fatigue has gradually became more intense as yet another side effect and the vertigo has sporadically returned. It has truly dibilitated a once very active woman. She can not drive nor lift anything over 10 lbs at this point. She was accustomed to mowing her own yard and now is exhausted by a trip to the mailbox. Her doctor did confirm these side effects were more than likely from the Reclast. He has instructed her NOT to take her Vitamin D or any calcium supplements since this seemed to trigger the side effects in her case. Folks, this stuff can stay in your system a very long time and the side effects can be severe. They may start right away, but then again they may come months after the injection.  I truly urge anyone to consider Reclast only as a last resort for osteoporosis. While you may be considering taking it to help prolong your active lifestyle, if you suffer any side effects it may actually decrease your quality and possibly even quantity of life.

the RECLAST INFUSION almost killed me - That night my stomach swelled up and went into a spasm --- I started having severe chills, and aching all over - I had severe chest pain - It felt like someone was standing on my chest, and my chest hurt when I tried to take a deep breath - I don't know how I made it through the night without dying - I felt like I had been poisoned - We should have called 911, but I waited until I could contact my doctor the next morning - that was a joke - they are never available - finally talked to the osteoporosis clinic nurse who told me to immediately go to the ER - the ER doctors, put me on oxygen right away and every three hours did blood tests and EKG's to r/o damage to my heart - I spent the night at the hospital under observation , and finally came home today after they determined that my vital signs were stable - bottom line is the RECLAST almost killed me, and I cannot understand how the FDA could or would approve this treatment - I am contacting the FDA tomorrow and file a complaint - I hope anyone who reads this, understands that RECLAST could kill them -

I am 75 years old and I had Reclasp about a year ago.  I have had no ill effects from it and will take it again when my doctor reccomends it.

Hi carol, thanks for your infromation, I am sorry that you had to go throght all that.  I was about to get the injection for the first time ,but I wasn,t sure if I wanted to do it  but reading your post has helpe me to decide. I will not get the injection.

I went to see my ortho doctor. She found out after giving me reclast that you shouldn't treat anyone with it unless they have  been treated with the other meds like boniva, actinol and the others. She had one of the women in the office talk to me about what I went through before deciding to get it. I'm going on two weeks of being sick. I found out my aunt was concidering reclast. She already has a serious medical thing going on. I hope that what I've gone through has helped keep my aunt from maybe something worse

I had Reclast infusion July 2nd and the next day felt so stiff I could hardly move. Then I began to experience agonizing shoulder pain. I can't rake leaves, run a vacuum, or even knit. Even thinking about such an activity causes pain! 
I take Tylenol, ibuprofen, and muscle relaxants that provide some relief. A heating pad helps also. But living with this kind of pain saps one's strength. I pray it will go away after a while; and I will certainly never have another Reclast infusion.

I had a reclast infusion a week ago Sept 2010. It has been the treatment from hell. Besides flu side effects and headache. I also had a runny nose and a broncial cough. I had my right hand wake me in the night. It was so painful . My hand had some swelling and I couldn't use it. The next morning  I had bad pain in my hand. I have had a fever for days and just have felt bad. This morning I woke up and both of my knees felt swollen.  I've even had pain down the back of my legs like a sciatica attack. My Doctor said ther is nothing that can be done. I will have to  let it run its course and just treat the symptoms with tylenol and Ibrepropen. I would never recommend this to anyone for the fear they may suffer like I have.   I have had to miss work because of this. If a drug is going to be given to someone and causes bad side effects you would think that there would be something that could be done to stop the effects it causes

I agree with you totally.  I think all women who have had a problem with Reclast should be compensated by the Pharmaceutical Company.  We all need to band together and bombard them. 

I had the infusion about 2 months ago.  That was a bad mistake.  I have had nausea, racing heart, rash on hands, terrible back pain, pain in my wrists bad enough to keep me from doing any of my normal activities.  I also had some trouble sleeping, severe muscle spasms in my back, and leg and foot cramps.  The reactions started within about 15 hours of my infusion.  I never had any of these problems before taking Reclast.  I am in touch with the FDA and the Drug Company.  This should be taken off the market. 

I was given 5mg of Reclast in early May of this year for osteoporosis.The very
next morning I was awakened with the most severe pain I have experienced
in my life. It was severe muscle and bone pain which radiated down the left
side of my neck and into and including my left shoulder. Any movement at all was pure agony, I was unable to turn my head at all. I lived with this pain for one week, then gave in and went to my physician. She prescribed pain pils and muscle relaxants and I was taking both of them on a regular basis for about
two weeks without much improvement. I returned to the DR. at which time she
ordered physical therapy. I have been doing the exerciss religeousley as directed and have not seen much improvement at all. I am still taking the muscle relaxants, but not the pain pills. I am slowly stopping the pills, as I
know I cannot take them forever. August is almost gone and the pain
continues with only minimal improvement. I certainly do not recommend
this treatment to anyone without discussing Any and All other options first. This has been the worst experience of my 58 years of life                           

I was given Reclast in June 2009. I had two days of mild side effects. On the fifth day I woke with excruciating head and neck pain. I was diagnosed with temporal arteritis, an autoimmune disease of the arteries mainly in the head. I've noticed two FDA reports (one might be from my doctor) of patients getting an infusion of Reclast and then developing temporal arteritis (aka giant cell arteritis). Are there other patients with this? I've been a ventriloquist for 29 years but had to retire due to my health problems.

I had my first infusion in 08. Since that time I have had pain in different parts of my body. i have pain in my feet and at times cannot walk. I have loss some of my hair to the point, I had to buy a hair piece. I started taking rogaine for my hair and also biotin. The only shoes I am able to wear is volatiles, and sketcher shape ups for the cushion. When wearing other shoes my back,legs and hips hurt to the point that i stay on anti-inflamatory meds. I will not take again. The third time was not a charm.

I had my first infusion in 2008, I started losing hair alittle at a time. I had my third infusion this year and I have loss hair at a rapid rate. I started using rogaine and taking biotin. I had no idea it was the reclast until I read others results. I will not take it again. I think the pharmaceutical company should compensate the patients that have suffered because of this medication.

Extreme hair loss. I have lost 2/3 of my hair. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if so, has their hair grown back?

Have has reclast twice. first time no problems but second time I was fine the first day and that night developed a severe headache, scary, and then the joint pain started with severe lower back pain. Stayed in bed for almost 18 hours and finally took motrin that did help. I will not do this one again. Also had severe jaw pain. I can tolerate pain but this was too much for me.

I am 31 yrs old and had compression fractures of my spine and was diagnosed with osteoperosis.  Dr recommended reclast. I had the infusion on June 9, 2010.  Well the following few days were AWFUL!  I ran high fever, over 103F, was so weak i could not get out of bed, so nausous I could barely drink water.  Once the fever was over I started having bad pain in my shoulders that lasted for about a week.  I am finally starting to feel normal again a month after the treatment.  I wont do it again. I dont know what I will do for treatment but reclast is BAD! 

My wife had the same reaction and still has hives after 2 months.   She gets a breakout about every other week.  Do you have any additional information to share?

I had the infusion June 22. Fine the first day.  That night my chest got tight, my throat got tight.  Next day I had symptoms of flu.  Skin hurt - my joints started hurting all I can do is sleep.  3:00 in the morning of July 4th I drove myelf to the ER.  I had sever pain in my hip, back, knee and upper leg.  I had a pain under the hip bone -  The Dr said that my bowls had backed up and that it could be because of the reclast.  I still have the flu symptoms and sleep most of the time and have a severe head ache.  I will never have a second infusion.

Well I have pretty bad I dunno enlargement of bone going on around the "socket" of the hip.  They say it's paget's Disease but I don't have any of the other symptoms and I'm 39.  So, the rheumatologist I'm seeing and the Orthopedic surgeon at Brigham And Women's hospital in Boston have said it is so rare in a guy my age but all seem to agree that it is paget's and this is an option to treat it.  I ahve done nothing so far besides limp around for the last 4 months

My reclast experience was horrible and I would never never do it again.  I think they the pharmicuticle companies have a lot of nerve to put this drug out there I think it is similar to poison!!! Take an asperin or tylanol is a joke whenwhat is making you sick is a chemical reaction.  If you have a choice DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 39 y/o male from Boston who is going in tomorrow for my FIRST reclast infusion.  I have been "diagnosed" with paget's disease in the right pelvis, so far and am not looking forward to it at all after reading all this.

I just had reclast infusion yesterday June 18, 2010. I started having an alergic reaction about 14 hours later. I started itching really bad and hives came out on my inner thighs, underarms, stomach, arms and hands. I called my doctor and was told to visit redi med. I was given a cortesone shot and prescriptions for alegra and prednozone. Told to take alegra for 24 hours and if not better to take the prednozone. I have never taken prednozone and I am afraid to put another drug in my system. It has been 7 hours since the shot and the itching is back and the hives are still here. I started getting hoarse about 2 hours ago. I am very worried what will happen next. I decided to get on the internet for HELP!!!

Severe bone , joint, sternum pain. Could not walk. Chest pains so severe that I wanted to take a chain saw and cut off both my legs from the pain

Had excruciating pain in the chest, shoulder and left arm 9 hours after first reclast infusion.  It has been 2 days and the chest pain is still there.  Not as intense but still there.  Will it ever go away?

I have enlarged painful lymph nodes under both of my arms.  I first noticed them the day after I was given Reclast.  The right arm is more sore than the left.  Could Reclast have caused this?

Did you get any help with your tooth problem and the reclast side efferts. I Had reclast in Oct. and by this month I had to have 16 teeth capped and crowned, as they were all cracking.

Felt terrible all of a sudden approx. 12 hours after infusion.  Sickness, aching chest, fever, aching bones.  Nearly 3 days since having it and still don't feel too good.  Will I feel normal again?

Severe pain pretty much all over body, especially back, aides, and kees.  Blood pressure over the top, headache, dizziness.  Went to hospital via ambulance hurt too bad to get in car.  I have had all kinds of pain in my 72 years, but nothing to compare to this.  It took almost 6 days before I started to get some relief.  At hospital tried to tell the doctor that I had this treatment the day before, but he sent me to xray for back pictures, then had the nerve to tell me there was nothing wrong with my back.  Sent me home that night .  Do no think he ever consulted with lab where I received the Reclast infusion.  Acted like he thought I mgiht be senile and didnt know what I was talking about.  Six days I felt like going to my family doctor and he told me after conferring with Infusion Lab that I had 8 reactions from this treatment.

If I had known sooner, I definitely would NOT have had Reclast.  I experienced severe chills, flu symptoms for 24 hours, and was extremely weak...

i am considering reclast and getting more and more afraid to begin it.

I took my iv of reclast. After 24 hours the train drop on me. High fever, sweating, chills, muscle cramps, pain but pain....in all my bones, headaches, nausea, and very hard time walking. After severe dosis of vicodin I overcome the fever but my stomach was very sensitive. Call the doctor and they told it was a "normal side effect" gee I wish somebody tell me that.  After that, the pain continue (excrutiating pain) in my right leg, I walk like an old lady, sweating, diarrea and if I dont take tylenol I can not go to work.  Energy went running out of my body; I was very hyper now you don't recognize me: am weak, tired with no energy just for a couple of hours and then I just dream to be home and collapsed. For a person who went to the doctor with full histamine is scaring to see these changes. I am afraid to think about what else can come to me. I took my first dose of Reclast in March.  Within 12 hours, I experienced flu-like symptoms --- chills, severe headache, high temperature, and body aches.  I had the symptoms for approximately 72 hours but they decreased in gradually over that 72 hour period.  I had been on Boniva for approximately one year and couldn't take it because of the GI effects.  I will continue to use Reclast once yearly because I believe the side effects are mild compared to the good that result from using it. 

I took a one time dose of Reclast and ended up in the hospital for two weeks with renal failure and came home with kidney stones--8.  I also now have daily headaches and severe bone pain in places I never had pain before--hips severe, shoulders, arms, toes, fingers.  I have had back and neck pain before but it is much worse than before.  I am taking much more pain medicine than before taking the reclast.

I HAD INFUSION RECLAST 3 WEEKS AGO AND I AM STILL HAVING SIDE EFFECTS MY HANDS HURT AND I JUST DON NOT FEEL THAT GREAT . I WAS TOLD A FEW DAYS OF FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS SURE THAT IS SOMEWHAT TRUE BUT MY MD FEELS THAT THIS JOINT OPAIN IS NOT RELATED TO THE DRUG AND SINCE IAM OTHERWISE IN GOOD HEALTH I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NOW I FEEL SO TRIED AND ACHEY PLEASE REPLY THANKYOU   

Received my 1rst IV of Reclast last december  and started to notice all kinds of pain in Mid february when I first contacted you,since then they have increased having new symptoms atrial fibrillation,shoulder pain,bone pain,neckpain,influenza like symptoms,chest pain,fatigue muscle spasms and lots of dizziness.Needless to say I am a very unhappy person,I am 84 years old and living alone.Will be contacting the doctor who gave it to me next  monday as I want to know what is my next step.Please send me a reply

I am looking at side effects of this drug for my mother.  She too has terrible tailbone pain and pain in her thighs.  I am wondering if you are still experiencing this pain and if you also have pain in your thighs? 

Within three days of receiving reclast infusion, I developed an inflamation of the iris of my eye.  Went to the doctor and he said it was probably the reclast injection.  That was about last May 2009.  More recently I have experienced bone, joint and muscle pain that I believe is associated with the reclast as well.  I'm 61 years old and just don't believe I am supposed to hurt like this.  I have taken several different medications but nothing helps.  I won't be taking it again.  I can't take the other Osteoporosis medications because I have had bad reactions to them all.  Even the Mia Calcin ulcerated my sinuses causing a severe nose bleed.  Had to have my nose packed with gauze to stop the bleeding.  I think I am through trying to take any of this stuff. 

Scheduled to have it tomorrow but after reading side effects thinking of waiting have taken Bonvia and was very sick had my thyroid completely removed 2 years ago an now this problem has developed not sure what to do

on the 3rd evening after the reclast injection, I started to walk from my chair and had instant nausea, then a few seconds later had crushing chest pain on left side of chest, I am on a walker and thought I was going to fall on the floor, the pain was so intense, managed to get to a chair and sit.  Pain went away a few minutes later.  Followed up with my MD and had an EKG and non-stress test, they were normal. 

I was not given any instructions about drinking extra fluid before the infusion of reclast. I was only told to take 2 extra strength tylenol. I was a little achy the first night and next morning.The later in the morning, all at once I started feeling sick and extreme aching. I had chills and fever. This lasted all night. The next 2 weeks were a nightmare. I developed locked jaws, iritis in both eyes, and extreme ear pain. I could not take pain medicine, so I took Advil which took the edge off of the pain. I even had my dentist check my teeth out just in case I had an abcessed tooth. I did not have one. I have lost some eyesight in one of my eyes. Now my blood pressure and sugar levels are going crazy. I wished that I had of checked out all of the side effects! I only checked out the side effects on the Reclast website. I will never take this medicine again.

had a bad reaction to actonel; doctor recommending yearly injection instead - bit I am afraid... reaction to actonel was quite dramatic....

I had reclast yest. and was ok last night abd this am, then I started to get fever and bone achiness
especially in my chest. I am wondering if these side effects will last until tommarrow as I am scheduled for work and if I feel like this I will not be able to go.

I started recieving reclast injections a little over a year ago in November of 2008. My first injections was followed by my jaw locking and cracking very severly and my upper right wisdom tooth rotting and falling out. I did not put two and two together until I then recieved my second injection in December of 2009 and it was followed up by worsening of my jaw and my upper left wisdom tooth is now in the process of rotting and falling out. After seeing the side effects of this medication on t.v. and realizing to put two and two together I now know it was this drug that caused this problem. I had the Infusion done on 12/29/09. The only side effects I had was a little upset at my stomach the next day. I followed the directions on Drinking plenty of fluids before, during and after for 24 hrs. I hope the results show next December that it has helped. I will gladly do it again!! :)

I HAD A RECLAST INFUSION ON JAN 22, 2010; I HAD THE FOLLOW SIDE EFFECTS: HEADACHE, SEVERE BONE PAIN AND WAS IN BED ALL DAY; TODAY I AM STILL TIRED AND THE PAIN IN MY BONES HAVE LESSENED; BUT I AM EXPERIENCING SEVERE PAIN IN WHAT I BELIEVE IS MY RIGHT KIDNEY. I WILL GOT TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAVE TO CHECKED TODAY.

I just had the infusion two days ago (1/19/10) and was surprised with the intensity of muscle pain the day after the treatment. My pain was localized to my rib cage, neck, shoulders and upper back. In addition I was very fatiqued...slept most of the day. I took two Tylenol every four hours which helped. The following day my pain has subsided quite a bit, with just the left side of my chest and under arm sore. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the suggestion to drink several glasses of water prior to the treatment which I will adhere to next year.
I opted to try Reclast because I can not swallow pills very easily.

I had an infusion in October 2009...about 2 weeks later I had pretty severe tailbone pain. I still have some pain and it is now January 2010.

I'm 59 and 1 week after I took the first dose of reclast I ended up in the emergency room with severe pain in my bones and sustained muscle spasms all down my back and neck. Sometimes my head would jerk with a neck spasm. It was as painful as labor. The lymph glands in my neck were swollen and painful to touch. I had a tremor in both hands which is still not gone completely, 6 weeks later. I had polio and now my legs are even weaker. I discovered that there are many, many "after marketing" reports and that the CDC in Atlanta is collecting side effect info. The low incidence of serious side effects and calling one "flu-like joint pain" is very misleading. The drug rep told my doctor that my reaction was rare, only 2% have it but in other information I found there were %ages for pain and other problems in the 24% range. Please be careful!

My doctor feels i should do this treatment bec. have had hip pain for over two years. My bone denisty number came back at -3. But when I read all of these postings I begin to think why would I do this to myself and take these risks. Any help?

Since having the Reclast infusion on the 9th of November, I have been weak, pain in my chest, dizziness, a low-grade fever, and headaches. I first experienced the flu-like symptoms and bone pain, but that was mild compared to the way I have felt since then! Why oh why did I let my doctor talk me into this?! Thank you.
