  • I was a 40 yr old female...healt…

I was a 40 yr old female...healthy, runner, mother, 5'4, 122lbs. non smoker. I was prescribed Seasonique to help regulate my moods and help balance my hormones. The first day I began taking the pill, I noticed edema in my calves and ankles. It was hot and I ran daily, so i didnt think much of it. About 3 weeks after taking the drug, i began to feel swollen, distended. I lost my appetite, no position was comfortable. I began to look as if I were pregnant and felt the same. It affected my workouts, my mood, my family. I stopped taking the drug and went to see my doctor who sent me in for an abdominal ultrasound. I spent 4 hours there with ultrasounds, ct scans, more scans, etc. I was having a hepatic reaction to the drug. My abdominal cavity was filled with fluid, my lungs had fluid in them and something very scary was happening with my liver as well as my gall bladder. It has been 4 months since then and I am finally getting better. My fluid retention caused an 11 lb weight gain in 3 weeks. My liver enzymes are finally coming down to normal levels. My red blood cell count is still low and when I informed my gyn, she denied that it was Seasonique that caused it and encouraged me to take it again. She also said that she had never heard of or read or had seen any real problems with the drug beyond rare side effects of headaches and weight gain.  I will never take an oral contraceptive again and am currently looking for another gyn. While my case might be rare, I urge anyone to research the side effects on blogs, not reported by the drug company, before taking synthetic hormones. I learned that oral contraceptives are the 3rd leading cause of drug induced hepatitis. Good luck!

  • I'm 18, healthy and do not…

I'm 18, healthy and do not smoke. I had been on Yaz for 2 years and then switched to Seasonique. I took it for the full 3 months. As far as periods go, I loved this pill. No spotting, no painful periods, and a very light flow. HOWEVER, the side effects were just too much for me to take. My acne (which I had hardly had before) got terrible..worse and worse each day. Also, the pill made me so depressed (no history of depression) that I could not get out of bed. I recently switched back to Yaz. Hope this helps!

  • I just started, but not for…

I just started, but not for prevention of pregnancy.  I am 41 and having headaches around my menstrual cycle.  I have taken 4 days and I"m nauseated and have diarrhea everytime I eat.  I 'm not sure it's worth it.

  • Hi I switched from Yazmin…

Hi I switched from Yazmin to Seasonique just because I wanted to have less periods per year. I have never ever had any problems with Yazmin or other oral contraceptives but seasonique gave me headaches, stomach aches and a urinary tract infection - which I had never had before. I am 25 and healthy and don't smoke..but seasonique made me feel tired and lathergic. I would not recommend seasonique because of my bad experience with it.
