Simvastatin

extreme muscle pain in legs, shoulders, neck and back. already had fibromyalgia and this was worse than any pain had previous to taking simvastatin. I was on it a yr. I had chonic insomnia, chest pain like pneumonia, so tired couldn't hardly move. constipation and just a feeling of my health getting worse and worse. my memory had gotten so bad my daughter mentioned that in the last yr. I had gotten so much worse and complained more about it. I took myself off two weeks ago, started myself on coq10 300mg. I found out simvastin deletes you of it. I also am taking a vitamin/herb for enhanced memory. At first I still had lots of pain, I seem to be getting somewhat better. Hope I continue to get better. I'd rather have high cholestrol than have all these health issues, at least I'd have a better quality of life. I think this drug is pushed way too much on the public. I wonder about all the dementia and alzeimer patients if they really have as bad a case or would have if they had not been treated with this drug as some of them have.

i'm 43 years old took it for 2 months felt like I was going to die finally figured out it was the meds,called doctor on saturday when I was unable to barely walk and seen him today,found out I was only taken for prematience for later years wow,who would even keep it on the market!!!!Went to the er 3 times alots of test showed nothing,I figured it out very active until taking it then could barely walk muscle hanging off my bones..Had throat blockage also!

I too have the same symptoms. Did you ever recover? I just got off 1 week ago and still feel horrible.

my mom was on zocor since january. my sis and i told her to stop taking it as of this past friday. doctors have done loads of tests and cant figure out whats wrong. since being on zocor she lost her ability to walk , lost strength in right hand and has trouble talking. doctors say its not zocor but if all tests are showing normal what else could it be.?she has been on 40mgs since jan. 2011. today is may 15, 2011. she cries all the time. she is in wheel chair because of severe muscle weekness in her legs. i hope she goes back to normal soon, she is only 63 and use to run circles around me. oh also she fell and hurt her left arm in january right after she started this medication. her arm took forver to heal. wasnt broke or sprain. doctor said it would be better in a few days. wrong answer..... he also told her these symptoms would just go away. again wrong answer.

took simvastatin for 5 days-didnt feel well-two days later had ischemic colitis attack-i've lost 45 pounds and been sick with colitis for 2 years -horrible drug

Took 40 mg Simvastatin for 4 weeks following a suspected TIA.    I progressively felt very unwell for periods of time on a daily basis, the worst being early evening.
Weakness, Tingling in hands,  pressure and swelling in side of neck including my ears which felt like I was on an aircraft with the pressure,  pressure into my head,
heart fluttering, a general feeling as if I was either going to have a heart attack or a stroke I felt so ill,  My husband called ambulance twice as I was so ill.  Felt spaced out in my head, I have never felt soill in my life before.  GP now taken me off Simvastatin with no replacemnt drug as my chloresterol level is within safe margin.  I also had slight rectal bleed.     I am still on BP reducing meds and an aspirin per day 75mg for blood thinning, as a supportive measure.
I hope I begin to get my life back again now and that the effects of Simvastatin are soon out of my system

If you have a cough, look for it! It used to be one of my favourite natural cough remedies.
 
if your cough persists, seek professional help such as traditional Chinese medicine physicians - I have had very good experiences with them.

Have been on Zocor for almost 10 years with no problems but 6 months ago started getting rash on my left side which seems to be less annoying with good skin lotion. I also take some vitamin pills that have 1000% niacin(for building good HDL) and Niacin is known to create rash in many people along with other side effects that are similar to Zocor. If you are taking niacine as well as Zocor I believe the combination may be the cause as I have tried stopping either and the rash dimenishes, ythough does not disappear. The reduction of fats in your blood may just be giving you abnormally dry skin resulting in the rash as it seems ceaseing either pill reduces my rash to the area around a very small mole.

me.  I have a rash and my throat swells at times.  Until reading some of your comments, I never suspected it could be from the same med.  The swellinng in the throat was the final straw.  I am officially off the med. as of today, with an immediate doctor visit in the works.

I been on simastatin 20gms for 4 yrs. I remember I did had a rash last Aug 09 and it was realy itch. After 2 wks of suffering. I finally made Appt. with my Dr.. They schelule me for the following week. The day I planed to go for my Appt. The rash totally subsided. I call it off the Appt.  I noticed 3 days ago the rash started again, it is itch but I try not to scratch. I want to see if the rash will takes three wk to subside. I will let you know.

My Dr prescribed 20mgs simvastatin. I have been taking it for 4 yrs and no problem. My LDL is 173. I asked my Dr. I would like to stop talking it, He disgree. Can anyone tell me what is your LDL like?

My Dr. prescribed only 20 mgs. simvastatin, but recently fatigue and swelling of elelids caused me to stop taking it for a few weeks.  On reading about side-effects I discovered (which I should have done by reading the insert that came with the meds) that I should not consume alcohol while taking the med.  My Dr. certainly knew that I enjoy drinking wine.  I stopped the meds, my swelling of eyelids has gone down, and I am thinking about switching Docs.  Has anyone else experienced bloating as a result of this drug and drinking?

a few months ago my doctor prescribed 40mg simvastatin to take one before bedtime ,and he never told me anything about the side efect of thid drug,I have started feeling some muscle pain and abdomnel paint that was later on after I started taking the pill,but a few weeks ago late at night around 2-3am in the moning I starte feeling pain in my muscels back and shoulders and pain in my abdomnel,burping a lot ,heartburn and a lot of flart,alot of pain during the day,I have stopped taking this pill,and I feel much better now.this pill is not safe

I can certainly sympathize.  I began taking 40mg dose of Zocor in November of 2009 three days a week.  Took for 6 months.  Had blood work done in March.  Cholesterol level dropped to 206.  Doctor said he still wanted it lower.  He said to take it 5 days a week.  In May I started noticing itching, particularly in my groin area.  Itching started getting worse and spreading to my entire body.  I began eliminating different items from my daily life trying to find what was causing this.  This process led me to the Zocor.  I went to my doctor and he told me that he doubts the Zocor is causing this, but told me to stop taking it.  He said that if the itching didn't stop in 2 to 3 weeks then it probably isn't the Zocor.  I have been off the Zocor for 3 weeks now and the itching continues.  So, either he is right and it isn't the Zocor, or it takes longer than 3 weeks for the symptoms to stop.  I have an appointment with an allergist next week.  In the meantime, I continue to take antihistamines to releive the itching.  I believe I started having itching last year after starting the Zocor, but it wasn't severe enough that I paid attention to it.  I feel that when I started taking the Zocor more often the severity of the itching increased.

I've been on a Simvastatin for 6 months.  I broke out in a mysterious rash about a few weeks after I began it.  I've had a rash ever since.  2 dermatologist and 1 allergist later, it is the opinion of 1 dermatologist and the allergist that my rash is resulting from the simvastatin.  My heart dr. has never seen anyone get a rash from a Simvastatin, but he is going to work with me.  He wants me to be off of everything I take (vitamins also) for 6 weeks.  If the rash disappears, we will begin to introduce each pill 1 week at a time.  I itch everywhere.  The rash is terrible.  My dermatologist has me on Doxepin at night, an antihistimine in the day, and cortizone mousse.  I still itch.  I can't seem to find others that have experienced a rash from a Simvastatin.  Please reply if you can sympathize.

Blurred vision, like I was looking through water around the outside of my eyes, then very dizz, faint but not fainting--this has happened twice, I was shaky and weak after--it was frightening.....

I don't know if it is simvastatin related or not.  I have been on Plavix, metrolol, and simvastatin for about 15 months, following a heart attack and inplacement of stents.  Also, within that period, I was diagnosed with entrometrial cancer, and following surgery, received 28 radiation treatments, using the I-M-R-T method.  I have had heavy gas problems, and thought the problem was lactose intolerance, so switched to soy milk and soy yogurt.  Now, less than a month later, I have a facial rash and wonder if there is an interaction with the soy and simvastatin---or, if it is just the simivastatin.  Also, midway through the radiation treatments I had a problem with a severely sore mouth, red and on fire.  Didn't think at the time it was simvastatin related, but after re-reading the pharmacy notes, think that may have been the cause.

hair loss

I was recently diagnosed with high cholesterol level so started taking simvastatin a  week ago. Two weeks befroe that, my podiatrist prescribed diclofenac sodium for my plantar fasciitis for a month. Are these two drugs conter-indicated????  PLus I am experiencing diarrhea with rectal pain and not sure which is the cause. 

Thrombocytopenia

I've been experiencing chronic tendonitis in both elbow (medially and laterally) and in the past few months have been experiencing shoulder pain as well during exercise. I had bilateral x-rays taken of both shouders with unremarkable results. An MRI of my left shoulder presented shoulder tendonitis. For curiosity sake, I did a search on side effects of Simvastatin to discover that tendonitis is a common side effect. Looks like I'm going to have to have a discussion with my Cardiologist to determine if I have alternatives here. I'm really getting tired of this tendon pain. :(

i have been on simvastatins for about four months and had started with 10 m as a precaution against cholesterol.6.8 i experienced muscle aches and pains. i then went to my doctor and she told me that i8 should in fact be on 40mg ..the problems got worse within a week..i then had a TIA . the consultant put me back on 10mg and although i am now very well after a week following my TIA with no side affects at all..once again the aches and pains have returned especially in my shoulder and my calves, with intermittant aches in unusal places such as my side lower back etc

Has anyone taking this medication after a year,expierenced headaches?

I've been on simvastatin 20 mg for a month and I'm experiencing pain in both my shins. I was taking Lipitor but it became too expensive.
