Solodyn

i have been taken solodyn for about 6months and my entire face was covered with severe acne before i started taken these pills. it took about 3 months to see results. as of now i had not 1 bump/etc on my face totally clear. i have not expericenced any side effets this far. no one is the same and this drug will affect everyone differently. i have 4 months refills left and back to the dermtatologist to see if she wants to keep me on the solodyn. my only concern is if she decides to take me off the drug will my acne come back. good luck to everyone!!

Has anyone experienced fast heart rate (tachycardia) from this medication?

i feel like i have got a cold. is it okay to take cold medicine like tylenol while taking solodyn?

I just started taking this drug and I too have thryoid...I have noticed my hair falling out like crazy. Acne is worse too. Did you find anything out?

I am taking 55mg per day and I confess, it is the only thing that has helped my cystic acne however my hair is falling out in glumps. I thought it was due to my thyroid but I am thinking it might be due to the Solodyn? Can anyone give me advice?

I just started Solodyn almost 2 weeks ago, I went on vacation right after I started for a 4 day trip and never had any trouble. However, when I got home the first thing I noticed was my feet were so swollen they looked and felt like they could explode. I assumed it was due to all the walking I had done on my trip. However, by the end of that week I had started experiencing intense itching in random places at random points of the day. No amount of lotion helped. Finally, I called my dermatologist and he determined that I am likley allergic to Minocycline. He wanted me to take benadryl 4 times a day for a week, but I am actually also allergic to antihistamines so he put me on a steroid pack. In a week I will find out if there is something else they can put me on, the sad thing is that tetra- and doxycycline quit working for me and Solodyn actually helped. He said it wasn't an adverse side effect I was experiencing it was an allergic reaction. If it were a side effect I could maybe consider taking it if I wanted to live with that, but since I'm allergic then I can not take it. Accutane scares me and is sooooo expensive I don't know what else I can do or take at this point. It's very frustrating because although I had acne in high school it was few and little breakouts typical of a teenager, however now that I am 2 I feel like my skin is worse than at 15. Ugh!

I've been taking solodyn for 2 months, no side effects in the beginning. However, I recently stopped taking the medicine because of side effects. I started to feel nausea all the time, as well as suffering from a persistent sore throat. I went to the doctor about my sore throat (it felt worse than strep) and all the test came back negative. Also I experienced tingling in my feet and my feet would go numb. All of these things are listed in possible side effects. Solodyn DID greatly improve my skin, but its not worth the side effects.

After using Solydn for about 6 weeks I developed elevated blood pressure, a temp of unknown origin and a rash started to develop.  I went to the dr because my bp was high and I was having headaches on thursday.  My BP was fine when I went to the doctor and they found my temp to be 101 so they did tests which all came out negative.  That night I developed a rash.  It progressively got worse and benadry was not helping the rash.  By sunday I was in the ER being treated for the rash with prednesone and pepcid.  I left the ER and then monday went to see an allergist about the rash.  He diagnosed me with a drug rash.  I had been taking motrin for the fever I had and the two drugs together caused the rash (solydn is a tetracycline which should never be taken with motrin).  I was then given a dose of steroids that should've gotten rid of the rash.  I then went to work that night and the rash did not get better.  I felt fine tuesday and when I woke up from my nap to go to work, I suddenly felt very weak and had to call off work.  I went back to the ER wednesday feeling very lethargic.  They again treated me with the steroids and pepcid, but this time they drew blood and found my liver enzymes to be extermely elevated.  My AST was 650 (normal is 10-30).  I was admitted to the hospital for damage to my liver.  I was admitted for 3 days and now just recovering from all that has happened.  I cannot drink alcohol, I have to have frequent blood draws to check my levels.  I am not able to take any medications that I usually take because my liver is unable to filter out the toxins.  Hopefully the liver will regenerate after time, but Solydn anyone taking this med should be having their blood drawn frequently to check liver enzymes.  I was very lucky that the doctors were able to figure out what was going on before anything worse happened.

How soon after taking Solodyn do the side affects accur? ( hair lost, headaches, stomch cramps, depression and reflux like feeling.)

I have seen a significant loss of hair after about three months. I went to my dermatologist and told her that I feel that it is from Solodyn and she sent me to have blood work done thinking I may be anemic or I have a thyroid problem. The amount of hair I am picking up from my bathroom floor every morning after brushing it is scary. I am worried that it won't stop falling out. It is already noticeably thinner.

I got Diarrhea and stomach cramps after using Solodyn

Solodyn worked well for me but strangely stopped being effective after about one year of treatment.  I went another 6 months continuing to take the drug with little to no improvement.  Finally my doctor and I decided it was necessary to begin accutane treatment.  I am ending my second month now and am not seeing much improvement yet my derm insists I will start seeing results soon.  I believe so as well.  Although I do not suggest taking accutane unless all other forms of treatment have been unsuccessful. It is a very powerful drug and I was always reluctant to taking it but it got to a point where nothing else worked.  I am just hoping that accutane will provide me with the results that I was promised.  My acne is deep, cystic acne and I believe that is why solodyn was ineffective for me.  However, I do believe it is a good drug (besides being extremely overpriced) and will do a fine job treating minimal-moderate forms of acne.  

since i started using it my skin has become terrible i have hundreds of little pimples under the skin now, is that normal?

Yes it can cause hair loss, as it did for me. I was on this pill for a year when it started to really cause serious hair loss. Stopped taking it soon after, 4 months ago, but i am still seeing loss of hair on an almost daily basis.

Dose anyone know if Solodyn can cause your hair to fall out???
