Spiriva

have taken spiriva for 18 months -have gain 20 lbs-always bloated-tired-hair loss-retain fluid so on,so on, doc said my choice was to breathe or not to breathe-guess which choice i made?

Went to the pumonary doctor and he put me on Spriva. First he gave me a 10 day sample box. I'm on it for the 3rd day. I have noticed a aggrevating cough, that I did'nt have before. Nose is a little runny too. I'm going to try it for the 10 day trial pack. Don't know if I will continue. I haven't been sick and don't want to get sick. I'm real leary about trying new drugs. Advair put me in the hospital with pneumonia, not going through that again.

Spiriva has really helped my asthma and COPD. Unfortunately, my BUN creatinine level is 1.3 which is borderline kidney function

judy, feel your pain. i tried spiriva twice in 1 month and my breathing was worse. now, i've been off for 1 week and am experencing depression.

Have been on Spiriva for 7 years. Have always dry eyes, mild urinary issues etc. Three years ago developed neuropathy, Dr. said it could not be from Spiriiva but drug at least AFFECTS it. Cut down from 2 puffs on one dose to 1 puff and pain diminished. Went off drug for 5 days and felt much better but did get a short 'burst' of neuropathy pain that didn't last when I used Flovent. Have gone from severe neuropathic pain to mild by lowering doses of both drugs.
Also have recently developed severe stomach pain that I am barely controlling with lowered Spiriva dose. Drs. not very much help at this point, Pulmo seems to think neuropathy is not in his area and others refuse to discuss and side effects related to his prescribed meds.

Skin burning that lasted for a couple of months, comes back occasionally, some burning when urinating, severe reflux, and, just diagnosed with cataracts. Cataracts were not diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago when I had my eyes checked.

Does not seem to help with my breathing. Have quit, having surgery for cataracts, trying to decide how to treat reflux. The drug is bad news.

I've been on Spiriva for 5 months now. It has helped my shortness of breath, but I've gained 13 lbs and I cut out desserts etc. and nothing is working. I always feel blouted and don't seem to have much urine. I always was trim til I started all these meds for copd.

C.onstipation terribly. Agitation, depression. It may be opening my lungs for better breathing (not sure), oh!, and vision problems paramount, but it is
just a horrible drug. I am quiitting for a while and see what happens after having been on it for nearly five years! I hate it! And, flovent is horrible, too, as most steriods are.

On it for 5 days and now have a raging UTI. Doesn't seem to be helping my breathing either.

Hi Cindy, What I've found is that I need to rinse my mouth with warm water after using either Symbicort or Spiriva. You need to do this especially in the night, if you're taking the dose before you go to bed. What I do is try and take the medications (Symbicort or Spiriva) before I eat on evenings, still rinse my mouth afterwards and in additional I have a cup of something hot before I go to bed. somehow this has stopped me from getting up in the night or early hours of the morning and coughing my life out. I've been on Spiriva several years and not sure if it helps. I mainly have asthma (as a part of emphysema and copd, mild to moderate).  I have been getting white round circles in back of mouth, coughing (still smoking), and depression. so, I 'm going back on flovent, which is primarily for asthma and inflammation.  I've never had depression, so this is disturbing, to put it mildly.  I am 67 years old and male.
I also use abluterol for asthma attacks, several times a day.  Has anyone else had the depression and the white cirlce in back of mouth near the vulva thing in middle, or whatever it's called.?

Well I have only been taking sprivia for around 3 days now and my skin in normally darker than most people because I come from an Italian background but I have noticed that my skin has turned white on my face but not the rest of my body I am quite concerned has anyone else had this experince. Noticing a cough since I started Spiriva.  Has anyone else had this experience?

A crusty rash appeared on the back calves or both legs. This was after the second dose of spiriva.

I was told the same thing even tho my chest xray was normal and commenced on the same meds as you. I now have terrible left hip pain, shockingly painful calf cramps [like electric shocks] and numbness/pain into my left foot and toes. I only get relief by taking Valium at night and by lying on my other side with the affected leg raised on a pillow. I will now seriously consider gong back on my old meds of Flixotide and Ventolin rather than continue putting up with this. I also have had sinus symptoms and my mobility has been severely restricted  because of the above problems.

I was diagnosed with COPD in November of  2010. Was a smoker for over 50 years. Quit smoking the same day of diagnosis. My DR prescribed Spiriva along with Symbicort and the rescue inhaler. As of now I get very little sleep and that is done sitting up because of the severity of the bone pain and the perrible leg cramps. I did not know what the problem was until I started researching the side effects of these powerful drugs. I am now at a loss as to what I can do since my diagnosis is severe Emphysema. This site has helped as I now know why I have so much pain. Wii be in touch with my DR asap and hope for some answers.

crust rashes appearing on back of legs.

I have only taken spiriva for 6 months but i already have side effects.  My eyes are  always itching, then I developed a rash on my hands and arms.  It then spred to other parts of my body. THen I developed hives.  Enough if enough.  Not going to take it anymore

I would be very interested in "how" the spiriva killed your mom. I'm afraid it might kill me. I am having severe side effects from it that has been going on for over six weeks. Sorry for your loss.

Now that you mention it... my hair has thinned quite much since I have been on spiriva. I didn't make a connection until I started having more severe problems with what I believe to be the spiriva, such as severe chest pain, jaw pain, and extreme sore throat pain and constipation. I quit taking the spiriva for four days and my chest pain quit, so did my throat and jaw pain but I could barely breathe this morning so I enhaled a spiriva capsule. I plan on taking my findings to my doctor.

I am experiencing same  problem as CarolAnn (I have not saved the "duds"), but I do think the Company should reimburse users or at least provide a discount coupon.  Thank you for your consideration.

I have taken Spiriva for about 2 years and recently had an increase in leg pain, muscle spasms, chronic dry eye, diarrhea, difficulty passing urine, blurred vision, fatigue, malais, depression, difficulty sleeping and fidgeting.  The increase seemed to come on stronger as the weather became colder.  I had similar effects taking Advair while also taking Spiriva, and had some positive results when I stopped the Advair.  I get relief of the muscle spasms and leg pain by taking ibuprofen, but I don't feel that this is a long-term fix.

Took Advair and Spiriva for six months.  Got symptoms of bladder infection so went to the clinic and had test.  Nurse said my urine was clear--no infection.
Went back home feeling miserable with my bladder problem but read about the side effects of Spiriva and stopped taking it.  Within two days, my bladder problem went away completly. 

Has anyone experienced hair thinning while on Spiriva?

I was taking atrovent for several years for my asthma. I found that it dried my lungs and coughed at night. He suggested I switch to spiriva but I am having the same symptoms of a non productive cough at night. I am also getting cramps around my legs. Will give it up.

Spiriva worked wonders for my breathing but, after about 4 months of increasing leg and bone pain, terrible muscle cramps I decided to check on the side effects of it.  Well guess what all of these and more were considered side effects of the drug.  Wish one of the Dr. I saw in the 4 months had figured it out and maybe I would have been spared the pain and money it cost me during the last few months.  I also had cataract surgury during this time and was very surprised that that was a problem since I have regular eye dr. visits and had been to get new glasses within the last 1 1/2 years.  I stopped using the drug 7 days ago and am already having less and less pain in my legs daily.  I am afraid to try any of the newer drugs now for fear of same results.

I must agree with Carol Ann , there are too many duds in the package and the medicine is expensive  so this should not happen.

I also have trouble every month with some capsules. When I push in button to pierce the capsule and I can hear the capsule kind of omit a crunching. or cracking noise I know I have a dud. When I put inhaler to my mouth to inhale powder you can not draw on it, it is complety plugged up. When I open it up the capsule has shattered, is in little pieces and has the screen plugged up. Now keep in mind that I have not been able to draw on it at all. Some times there is a trace of powder most of time there isnt. I believe they are defective capsules.

dry mouth, terrible unpleasant taste, nausea, diareha, headache, body aches, sinus infection.  I have not wheezed since I have been taking Spiriva. 

Are you so stupid that you can't look inside and see the powder is indeed gone and in your lungs after you inhaled it. Damn you have to be a BLONDE.

3 spirvia capsules failed to vibrate & were useless!  I FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS COMPLETELY.  I am saving the "dud" capsules & will demand refund or replacement for them.  Spiriva is expensive and am tired of having "duds" in every monthly prescription.  Not Fair.  Thank you.

I have been on Spiriva for about 3 years. It is proven to increase lung capacity and I totally agree.  However, I have recently (6 months or so) been experiencing memory loss.  I mean severe memory loss, like no recollection what so ever.  This is causing major job related stress for me and could cause job loss.  I don't think my husband or family would fire me but it is a major concern with my profession.  It was something to pick on me about originally but not so funny at work anymore!  Has anyone else experienced this type of side effect?  Spiriva is an excellent source of relief but is this the trade off and what other choices do I have?

I have found Spiriva has increased my lung capacity.  I do have some side effects, such as; dry mouth, constipation but breathing better is sure a better deal than not taking Spiriva.  My question is: is Spiriva responsible for weight gain. It doesn't mean I would stop taking it, just have to get use to buying a larger size, but would like to know if this may be a problem. Thanks for your answer.

Since starting Spiriva two weeks ago I have had trouble sleeping. I wake up after a few hours of sleep and have trouble catching a few winks any other time.
62 and using Spiriva once a day in AM.
