Venofer

Had five hours of IV infusion of Venofer on Friday. Right arm inside bend of elbow IV needle. Burned for whole five hours from needle sight to tip of middle finger. Continous burning and shooting pains every few moments for five hours. After about 4 1/2 hours my back began to hurt, I began to experience indigestion with burping, and felt like I was going to throw up.

I started venofer Monday(today is Thursday). I was scheduled to have it every day this week. The first 2 were fine and the only side effect was being tired(probably from the benadryl). However after the 3rd one yesterday, I am so fatigued and nauseous and my body feels weak. I rescheduled my last 2 for next week as my arms where the IV was, is so sore and built up some scar tissue. After the first one though I did notice signs of a bladder infection late that night. Slight fever, urgency when needing to urinate and chills. On antibiotics now, and that is better but feel so tired and weak.

I have Venofer infusion in 2010 (series of 8) with absolutely no side effects.
I began another regimine May 23, 2011. The new Hematologist is ging me a concentrated dose (3 infusions vs 8) equating to the same amount of product. After the 1st infusion, I experienced severe shortness of breath (wore my hospital band to bed to help the coroner detemine cause of death) and nausea/diarrhea. The doctor reduced the amount at each infusion so I will now receive 4 vs 2. I had my second infusion on 6/17/11 with no side effects. The afternoon of 6/22, (6 days after my second infusion) I began experiencing shortness of breath and extreme stomach flu-like symptoms. Is this normal? I am really nervous about continuing the series of infusion. Am I suposed to feel like this? I felt better with severe anemia. I'm afraid that the venofer may be causing some permanent damage. The dr/nurse discount this.

I had my first of 5 infusions yesterday. They did give me Bendryl and Tylenol ahead of the Venofer. I didn't have any side effects during or after the infusion. Today, though, my body is sore. Is this common? I don't remember the amount of Venofer they used. It was quick, though. Just 15 minutes. I hope the infusions work for me. Oral supplements give me such bad cramping.

I take iv Venofer treatments 2x a week.This is my 4th set of treatment..i have severe headaches and nausua BUT I have my DR always order benedryl through iv before the Venofer is hung. This helps dramatically with the side affects. I am very admamant about the benedryl iv each time!!!

Had rapid infusion of 900mg over 15 minutes. Felt ok after infusion, got home slight abdo pain nausea. Next day severe abdo pain and uncontrolable vomiting. Had to have emergency GP to administer medication to relieve symptoms. Aching all over for next few days. May see if I can go back to cosmofer. Need infusions due to micro bleeds resulting in low HB and ferritin.

I had Venofer infusions just this last weekend, two of them to be exact. I was fine after the first and then the hospital nurses gave the second, still fine. I went to sleep and woke up about 4 a.m. ( approx 8-9 hours after last infusion). I had violent shakes, chills, skin was burning up but I was freezing. I had 102.8 fever and my body ached like nothing I had ever felt i.e. back pains, migraine headache, joint pain, chest pain and stomach ache. The nurse gave me Tylonel to break the fever. I am now on day 2 since the reaction and my chest still has a slight pain and I am fatigued. I have an extreme case of iron deficency anemia so I was hospitalized and received my infusions there. I am extremely nervous because I am set to receive infusions here in the future to keep my hemoglobin #'s up :(

I had the venofer infusion 4 days ago and I still feel like crap.  And my doctor doesn't believe that it's the infusion that made me sick.  Because I didn't get sick until after I got home, he's convinced that I caught a virus and advised me just to drink plenty of clear liquids.  I had severe chills and shaking, couldn't get warm.  All my joints and bones ached, with a very bad headache.  I also had shortness of breath and chest pain.  And whenever I tried to walk anywhere I was dizzy.  These symptoms were very bad the first day, and then lessened in severity, but I was down and out for 3 full days.  I've never had a "virus" that caused a reaction like that.  Wish I'd been told to try some benadryl.

I had my first venofer infusion in October 2010.  To be honest I was so ill at the time I don't remember any side effects. However, I had my second infusion March 14, 2011 and did have some problems. About an hour into the infusion my legs started to ache and that  pain with with me all day .My feet started swelling with burining in my legs before I left the parking lot. I was tired after 4 hours at the office so I just went home.  After getting home my feet continued to swell-left foot was the worst.. (My nurse instructed to me to Benadryl.) The second day my feet were still swollen and I was slightly sick to my stomack all day and into the evening.  Today is the third day and I and finially doing ok.  I am a bit disapointed that the venofer only lasted 4 months.  I really ecpexted more.

I had venofer infused and my iron counts are very low so I had a double dose, still within the prescribed range.  They infused it very slowly.  This was before lunchtime.  I was fine the whole day.  I started feeling bad around 7pm and could not sleep the entire night.  Incredible pain in my body (like my bones were on fire).  Extreme cold chills, like I had a cold fever.  Very bad headache.  My stomach was upset.  I did not sleep at all and had to take pain killers.

sever bleed from rectum no appitite no energy

I just had 5 days of one venofir infusion a day.My hands and arms swelled up like balloons. They are very painful and feel like they are on fire. Ice packs helped the burning sensation but the swelling is still very bad? Why is this happening, and what can I do to keep this from happening again?

my infusion seemed fine to start with after 3hrs I thought I was being posioned it was awful burning all over the body,fever,chills ,sweats only after couple hrs after did I get to calm down regarding my temperture. But burning sensation still there & joint pain all over. I'm so scared to have this done again!

Infusion seemed to go fine, then had dark pungent urine just before conclusion of infusion.

Got home, was very weak, went to bed, was awakened by super bad chills & violent shakes, with deep excruciating bone pain, in legs, pelvis, low back, spine, shoulder blades & collar bones. This is after taking afternoon Kadian 60Mg. & later Percocet 325/10. At 8pm I took a 20Mg. Kadian, all to no avail. Also, tried Arnica.

I very rarely run a fever, but took my temp & it was 101.5! Odd, with all the pain meds.  My last blood draw did not seem to indicate an infection, as the WBC, was only 10.6. Freezing cold but skin is burning up! Sweats, too, were very pungent.

Killer headache. Very weak. Nausea. Neck pain, too.

Took a 500mg. Tylenol & Benadryl (dye free), back to bed. Very restless night,waking frequently, to urinate. Still experiencing intense pain in bones.

6AM, less pain & temp down to 99. Took 1000Mg EmerGenC drink. More Kadian. No appetite. Drank lots of water to bring down the fever, which, seems to have worked. Now, normal temp. Bone pain has diminished.

Checked with infusion nurse, & told that this reaction, while rare, is not unheard of. 

I am willing to try another Venofer infusion, as the anemia is so severe. Hemo has been steady at 8.0 for years & it has taken a toll.

4-5 hours after venofer infusion developed fever 100 F ,pulse 120/min,palpatation and bronchospasm.i took ventolin inhaler but was of no use i remained in that condition for 3 more hours when brochospasm was not relieved and worsened i went to emergency got myself nebolized with atrovent,they give oxygen .
