Warfarin

Male 83yrs, 58kgs medium height has been taking warfarin 5mth after p.e. affecting right heart: fatigue unable to gain weight and decreasing strength. Deep seated irritationin leg. INR taken weekly or fortnightly if reading varies. Weight loss from66ks to 58ks occurred befor pe attack.

My teeth are decaying..Could this be due to high dose coumadin therapy?

Started taking warfarin about 19 days ago. Had DVT (blood clots in both legs). I am on 4mg a day.
2 days ago my left thumb went numb and my heart was beating very fast. I thought I was having a heart attack. I saw a doctor and he told me this was a side effect.
Yesterday, I had a fever and my left kidney was very sore. Today the fever and the kidney pain are gone. Ever since I have been on Warfarin, I have been feeling so tired and off balance. I have to lay down to feel better. My urine also has a strong odor.

have an occasional metal taste paired with minor heart burn, which I have never experienced prior and first couple of days vomitting and nausea that E.R. docs said was not a known side effects.

rash on face and neck, there is almost a heat coming from the rash and it is itchy

I am 29 and found i had a blood clot in my leg and could have died, if i didnt go when i did, Reading all this is scary! I am only 29 and SHOULD NOT be on this medicine at all! WOW

Has anyone had swelling or soreness of the tongue whilst taking warfarin.....

I am taking Warfarin and dyed my hair. Now my scalp is weeping and I have big raised lumps on th eback of my neck. Could this be a warfarin side effect?

I was diagnosed with PE and leg clots following knee replacement surgery 5 weeks ago. I am on a low dose of Warfarin (3mg), but since being on it, have had very itchy skin which is driving me crazy. Has anyone else had this side effect and if so how did you get through it? 

After a pulmunary embolism diagnosis in April 2010,  I was put on Warfarin for 11 months ... I was taken off it 1 week ago...  While on it I experienced extreme lethargy , difficulty concentrating, memory loss, dizziness, ongoing chest pains that felt very similar to pain experienced with PE and low iron levels. However about 1 month ago blood test showed iron has gotten even  lower ...
My dosage was between 12.5mg - 15 mg/day
I am still a bit fatigued but have started taking iron sups and hoping that lethargy will improve soon...

I was diagonised with Pulmonary Embolism last May. I was prescribed with Warfarin since then. I have been taking 5mg daily. In nov 2010 i developed problems. My tongue cracked and swallowing and chewing was not easy. It lasted 6 days and with diferent treatment incldunding some local herbs i was cured. My dose was reduced to 2.5 mg but after 2 weeks my INR reduced to 1.6 and had to do 5mg again.

Now the same problem has returned but now in big way. Tongue and mouth have very bad soars. My feet have a black parch in the middle that is ichy, another ichy pach on my right hand fingures.

Since starting on warfrin I have chest and stomach pains and lack of breath. Also when I get up too quickly I feel like I am going to pass out. Feed up !

From time to time I experience the same itching, and it's terrible. There are so much side effects from Warfarin. I am using it now for 24years and can tell you everyting. Not all the doctors believe the side effects but we are the ones using it. Hair loss, weight gain, tooth decay, tiredness, restless legs, depression, anxiety, feeling thats the end of the world, swolen ancles, poor blood circulation, veins, headaces, o my, there are so many!!!!!

Wish there could be someting else to use other than Warfarin, it's making me sick after 24 years of using this terrible medication......

I was diagonised with DVT two months ago and hospitalized for 1 week later discharged and administed warfarin 2.5gm and later 5gm then 7.5gm and now 10gm of which i have started experiencing headache and nausea.

The rectal bleeding is a side effect of the medicine. When my levels are high I rectally bleed and I am currently on an Ileostomy bag and do not pass waste from my rectum. I have been on Warfarin for approximately 2 months and feel like I am dying daily. Today is a rather bad day in that I have pains in my head, legs and am rectally bleeding small amounts at times. There is a new blood thinner in the pipeline but not available in the US yet called Xarelto from Bayer but I'm not sure what the side effects are. Good luck!!

lost both legs with ulcers was on warfarin for 33 years found out if i had not been on it i would still have my legs.  Get off this horrible drug!  Its a rat killer so you know what it doing to your body !  I take lovenox injection at home now.

Im 21 years old.. This year in january when I was 10 weeks pregnant I found out I had multiple clots in my lungs and was put on 120mg of clexane iv been on that up untill 3 weeks ago where they found another pe an put me on 160mg... a week ago I had surgery to drain a breast abcess after they discharged me they put me on warfrin since iv first started it I started getting abdonmal pain and some bleeding from the back end when i go to the tiolet is this something I should be worried about or is this all a coinsidence?

I have experienced an excessive hair loss, spots, and I am feeling cold more than normal. I think it's definitely because of the warffarin, but my GP doesn't egree with me at all. I am 44 y.o active, healthy(even after surgery) woman and never had this symptoms before.

I was doing what I thought was fine on warfarin, the generic, for about six months, and then the druggist used a different supplier so the inactive ingredients changed again and I became suicidal and felt like I was going to die. I insisted that the clinic get me to my primary care doctor which I immediately got an appointment. Much to my surprise when I explained what I was feeling, he immediately said " the inactiive ingredients have changed."  He ordered the real thing -coumadin without exception- and within 3 days I began to get my life back and after 3 weeks I believe that I will survive.  I am 75 yrs. of age and taking coumadin for DVT's.  Never again will I allow a warfarin  prescription, I will only take the real thing, coumadin. It costs me $125. for 100 tablets but I will pay it rather than risk my life. (The warfarin only cost $4. for 30 tablets ). I am so pleased that my doctor understood the makeup of generics and did not criticize me.  He immediately understood the problem.  So if you are having trouble with warfarin, insist on coumadin to see if your problem goes away.  Usually my druggist is good with explaining drug makeup but he kept saying there was no difference between coumadin and warfarin and totally forgot about the inactive ingredients.

Immediatly after taking my dose, feel anxiety (psychosomatic?). Have really low blood pressure most of the time (90's / 60's). My throat has a bit of pressure, change in the way I swallow. Sinusses are dry, nothing to blow--too dry; this is a change.

Since taking Warfarin 3mg/day I have had irregular bowel movements. Stools are soft and effects are early in the morning.

Had heart ablation one month ago and am taking warfarin 8mg as INR result 1.5. I am feeling very lethargic and have no apetite. rheumatic pain in hands worse.

I am now 36years old and had mitral and aortic valve replacement, when I was 12. I have been on Warfrin since that time & have had many months when I have forgotten to take my warfrin and I feel like my life is too hectic. Then I feel bad because I havent taken it for about 6mth and I start again. I fear because I have taken the warfrin for so long I dont find the interest in it as important any more but I want to be better and start taking this medication daily like I used too about 5 years ago. how can I get back to doing this again? regularly

I am a 45 year old male who has been physically active my entire life. 6 months ago I had a PE and DVT that inept quack doctors failed to diagnose. About 4 months ago they finally figured it out after I got tired of the complete imbeciles that practice medicine in NYC and diagnosed myself. Since I have been taking coumadin I have gained 40 pounds.. I know, I know you think first: I am not as active as I was before the incident but this is not the case. I live in NYC and walk everywhere. In addition to that I am in the gym 5-6 days a week for 1 and a half hours each day. Why can't these faux doctors educate themselves on this medicine. I also have noticed that when my inr is in therapeutic range I have thick mucous on the lower part of my larynx that necessitates deeper breathing. Coumadin/Warfarin is poison!!!! Rat poison to be exact. If I eat a pea I gain weight, Hey doctors, get off your lazy status quo asses and let people know this is a symptom!!!!

57 year old female, been on Warfarin for about three years due to repeated DVT.
I have been depressed for a few years also,  Taking Citolopram for that.
Wondering if anyone has experienced fatique while on Warfarin.
Even when I am feeling emotionally well, I still feel very tired and taks a nap most days.
My imagination?

I've also developed a rash on my lower legs, a bit like eczema, and also difficulty swallowing. I've been taking it 2 years

sweating, cold, fatique, but the worst is severe pain in muscles and joints.....I have been put on a pain med to help.....I continue to take this med because of a PE and am too afraid not to take it....but these side effects have greatly impacted on my quality of life and I will be over the moon when I no longer have to take it....plus...except for my GP, I have had specialists tell me that warfarin has very few side effects....very frustrating indeed

Sensitive to fluorescent lights, dizziness,loss of appetite,necrosis, INR all over the range (with testing 3 times a week, had to cut pills with a razor to get required dosage),disorientation,lethargy.

I had an Atrial Septal Defect with Atrial Fibrillation corrected in 1992, the Atrial Fibrillation stayed with me in spite of three (3) attempts to correct it post op. over a period of 2 years.

In 1994 I had a Pacemaker device implanted (Sigma 303 SSIR IPG, IS-1/3.2mm) and now have a blood clot formed on it.

At the time of these procedures I was on Warfarin and Digoxin but because of the above repeated symptoms (18 years of reporting) have refused to take both and as of yesterday (14/4/2010) refused again.

I fully understand the risk involved.

Experienced weakness and fatigue, diagnosed with pericardial effusion and anemia, hospitalized for 14 days. Surgical thorectomy and drainage.

Severe stomach bloating with severe pain in paricular when trying to walk .Diarrhoea after eating almost anything , skin rashes . under feet vey red and swollen around mouth . I have reported all of these symptons as they have occured and worsened over the past two months . Iam taking warfarin with beta blockers for atrial fibrulation .I have spoken to g.p and waiting to hear from consultant . It's taking alon time and i am very concerned.

Vit K (from any source ) reduces effectivness of warfarin.

If you have concern about Warfarin ask your doctor about taking 400mg CoEnzyme Q10, Aspirin (Cartia etc..) and fish oil as an alternative for blood thinning purposes.Warfarin only thins the blood otherwise it is a toxin.The 3 i mentioned are not.

hi.my partners dad has not long been put on warfarin for heart problems.for the past day he hsa had swelling,but now just pain on one side of his face.i have read up on certain complications but would be grateful for any input as to what it could be.

Would it not be both logical and medically effective to substitute good, leafy green vegetables and other foods with INCREASED OR REDUCED Vitamin K effects for this chemcal ? Perhaps continue the Pro-Time measurements until "stability" is achieved.

an additional concern of mine and several acquaintances is that Warfarin appears to be a "life-sentence" for the user and a "Permanent Annuity" for the Prescriber and the Lab.
