Welchol

Welchol is killing me. I feel like I have aged 10 years after 2 years of taking Welchol. I am so weak and constant fatigue. I need help badly...

I was started an this medication about 3 months ago. I began having severe leg pain and difficulty with urination. I then began to also have trouble swallowing, like food would get stuck in my throat. I also began to have moderate lower back pain. I was taking 3 625mg tablets every evening with supper. I had flu like symptoms of sweating while having goose bumps and a VERY runny nose. My fatigue was horrible. I would sleep for 13 hours and after being awake for 6 hours felt exhausted! I weaned myself off and have had no pills for 3 days now and already I am feeling much better. I HATE THIS MEDICATION!!!

Also having a problem with tinnitus ... and I am on Pravistatin 10mg, along with extreme muscle pain and tiredness. I have quit taking this medication.

I have been on Welchol for over one year, (First on pills, 4 a day, 625mg, total mg per day 2500 ..); then my doctor swiyched me to Pachets, (Diluted in water); once a day, 3.75 g a day. I take Welchol with other statin drugs. Well we were able to lower the bad cholesterol to 60; but I'm paying the price.. ALL my joints hurts, especially my knees, I cannot walk without pain no more than 2 to 3 blocks.
I'm going to discuss with my Dr. to stop welchol for 3 weeks to makesure that welchol is the source of my pain; than we will make a decion later.

:'(depression as usual...since I started taking Welchol I have had pain in out part of rib cage when try to sleep on left side.....thumb and index finger feel like they are asleep on left side...
my ankle on left foot has started swelling....feeling shakey...

Bad arm soreness.  Cannot get the oral Welchol to dissolve in water. Help?

My Mother took one dose of this three days ago and she is just about ready to go to the hospital because she has had diareha since then and severe stomach cramping.  She has colitis and shoud have NEVER been prescribed this medication even after she questioned the dpctpr about taking it.  Her stomach is distended like she is 9 months pregnant.  Recommend that anyone who has any kind of intestinal problems stay away from this stuff.  My family is furious with the doctor and this drug company...

Help...I feel like an old lady...stared on Welchol and was walking about a mie/day...just had started back and was going to in crease the distance...what really scared me was the last day i want walking...my husband out-walked me by about a 1/2 mile..I was out-walking him just 3-4 days prior...my back hurts..I'm itching so bad I'm clawing my skin...I've caused myself to bleed...and I can't get my nose to stop running...my throat hurts...I couldn't even make an appt for a bone scan...felt like i was going to pass out..the appt is rescheduled...I feel 'spacy' for a lack of better term...I did not do well on the statins...it took so long for me to realize it..I lost strength in my legs and arms I'm trying to gain back...I guess I can't take any cholesterol lowering meds...

Pain in right side in the morning. gas and rumbling sounds in stomach.pain in stomach. Hernia in stomach which caused me to have  acid reflux. muscle ache and constipation. Just feeling Ill, tired and weak. My doctor told me to stop taking the medicine. I am still experiencing some to of the effects.

I'VE BEEN TAKING WELCHOL FOR ABOUT TWO MONTH I HAVE EXPERIENCED PAIN IN MY LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE FOLLOWED BY SOME MILD INDGESTION. THE PAIN IN MY SIDES COMES AND GOES BUT USUALLLY SHOW UP IN THE EARLY MORNING

yes since i started welcol i am very depress and sever pain and burning sensation on one of upper thighs. I am tempted to quit taking the medication

Welchol is not a statin drug.

I have been on Welchol for 8 months 3 to 4 tablets a day.  Recently I have had pain in my feet (they feel brused), painful stiffness in my hands, and muscle pain in my thighs.  I have been on just about every medicine to lower my cholesteral and sooner or later I develope the muscle pain side effects.  I'm going off this medicine and calling my doctor.

I HAVE TAKEN WELCHOL FOR 1 MONTH--SIDE EFFECTS ARE SEVERE MUSCLE PAIN IN THIGHS AND LEGE--BACK PAIN--SEVERE HEARTBURN, SWELLING OF EYELIDS.  WILL BE CONTACTING MY DOCTOR REGARDING THESE PROBLEMS.

PLEASE do NOT take Niaspan.  My (old) cardiologist put me on it, even tho my chol. was 169 and I was already taking Lipitor.  He put me on it mid-December 1999 and within a few weeks I was so depressed, crying, not bothering to even shower some days.  This was NOT ME!!  Seriously considered suicide since I could not stand to live another 40 years like this (I was 51 at the time).  Took myself off it in February 2000 and started to feel a tad more normal.  When I saw my cardio guy in June, he asked how I was doing and I said:  "Fine, now that I took myself off the Niaspan."  To which he replied:  " Yeah, most people can't handle that!"  I screamed at him saying "Do you realize how you ruined my life for the last 3 months, and possibly forever, since I STILL don't feel like I did before I started taking Niaspan!"  I beliee it damaged my liver as I never had a problem w/ those counts when I'd get blood work done.  Now, those counts are all over the place (SGOT, SGPT).  I now have a WONDERFUL cardiologist (actually he's in the same OFFICE as my old one) who not only does NOT put me on more Rxs, he's trying to get me off the ones I'm on!  PLEASE  DO  NOT  TAKE  THE  NIASPAN..take CoQ10 400mg., Gugulipid, and Lovaza (which is the purest form of Omega 3...it's a Rx).  Be well!

i have been experiencing muscle pain in my upper thighs and around my hip joints since beginning the welchol.  i dont remember to take every day, but when I do, i take 2 tablets a day, each 625 mg.
i will probably get off the meds, since I searched and found that although uncommon, these types of statin drugs can cause muscle pain.

Have been on Welchol (powder mix) for a month.  Bottoms of my feet have become sore, getting rashes on face and experiencing tinnitus now as well.   I also noticed that my blood sugars have shot up from 105 (normal) to 195.  Further research on the subject indicates that you don't ingest it with other medications at the same time.  Makes sense since it seems to behave like an old-style horse-glue.  I'm definitely going off of it!  I'm also an American Indian male, if that makes any difference!

bloating  discomfort

I have been taking Welchol for about 6 months, now I am having tinnitus.  I also have a running nose constanly.  Is tinnitus a side effect of Welcho.

Have been on Wechol about 4 months and just stopped due to large muscle pain. Since muscle pain occurs in such a small percentage of patients thought I might be lucky and able to tolerate. Not so. Couldn't tolerate Lipitor due to severe pain in buttocks, upper thighs, and back. Tried Zetia - same response. Each time I've taken something the pain is worse, takes longer to diminish, and last time never totally resolved.
Will be voluintarilly reporting to Med Watch so that my symptoms can be included in the ongoing data re. this medication. The more people that voluntarilly report side effects the more this information will be available to Doctors and the general public.

doctor wants me to takeWelchol twice a day 1875 Why not take niacin non flush or red yeast rice?

Caused severe constipation within days of starting. Neck pain (severe) causing loss of motion, thigh pain, type 1 fecal material, loss of energy, severe weight gain. Background: I was riding mountain bike fifteen miles five days a week and had not missed a day in 9 weeks with absolutely no pain. I went from under 70 minutes to 88 minutes for same course in two weeks and could only ride three times following week and two times thereafter. I stopped it after about a month and pain continued, constitpation continued (type 1) for another five months when I became nauseous and threw up fecal material followed by diarrhea in excess of 48 times in 24 hours in which I passed solid material the entire time. I ate absolutely nothing for 72 hours. When I started eating the consitipation returned. I have eaten high roughage diet 35 years.
Did not have type 3 fecal material for a year. Type 2 first then 3.
Saw GI and he scheduled exam. While waiting for this I ran into old doctor and told him what had happened and he said, "You could have died from that."
When I started the prep I passed solid food for 5 1/2 hours that was undigested I had eaten 72 to 96 hours prior. Exam showed no damage. After the purge the neck pain all but disappeared over night.
Now I am stuck with about 400.00 worth of this stuff. I will never take this again.
