  • My partner died as a result…

My partner died as a result of taking capecitabine (Xeloda). He was 49 years old, beautiful, fit and had absolutely no previous heart conditions. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer earlier in the year but up to then never been sick in his life. He suffered a ventricular fibrillation after starting a course of oxaliplatin & capecitabine. The oncologists never disclosed that this type of chemo could cause death, ventricular fibrillation was mentioned on the consent form as a rare side effect, it wasn't disclosed verbally. When I asked what this was, I was told "a heart attack" and he was advised if he ever felt a tightness of his chest to phone emergency services immediately. Well unfortunately this never happened, he felt short of breath of approx 1 minute and then lapsed into a heart attack. I was never informed by the oncologist that CPR would be required should this happen or the need for a fibrillator. I have since googled numerous research on the connection between ventricular fibrillation and capecitabine.

I have just finished a 28 day course of Xeloda with radiation therapy for high rectal tumor. 5 days on, two days off. Cruised thru with no problems. However, I have now developed a sudden and severe ulcerative dermatitis of my glans penis. Any thoughts on creams/ointments that might be helpful.

  • Fathers last treatment with…

Fathers last treatment with Xeloda was on Feb 5th. This was his second treatment. He was admitted to the hospital on Feb 8th and has not left.
Started off with severe diahhrea and within 5 days was a bloody stool with average of 1800-2000 cc's daily. No pain. All labs came back neg for bacterial infections.
Doctors are baffled. Any suggestions or insight?
