Zicam

I took Zicam as directed, for 3 days. I had a lot of pain in my tongue so I stopped taking it. It has been 5 days since my last does and I still have a lot of pain in my tongue and cannot taste hardly at all. I am hoping that someone out there eventually got their taste back??!!

After 3 days of taking the Zicam Rapid Melts religiously, I was terrified to see my sink FULL of blood while brushing my teeth...needless to say it scared me to death and I will stop taking this medication ASAP!

I am 64 years old. Last weekend I had a classic onset of a head cold with a fever, sore throat, sinuses draining, sinus headache. A friend had recommended ZiCam "homeopathic" orange flavored lozenges. I let one dissolve under my tongue which took about ten minutes. Within twenty minutes, my sinuses were clear and sinus headache was gone, to my surprise - this was much faster than Afrin would have done, and I use sprays very cautiously and never more than three nights in a row. Then I noticed my heart was pounding very fast, I don't think it had been that fast in years - racing. I lay down and wrapped up and waited. I clocked it at 100-110 beats per minute for about ten minutes, then about 90 per minute for another ten minutes. Then it started to skip some and started to slow down. After about a half hour I had my normal rate around 70 beats/minute. I'm staying away from these "homeopathic" drugs in the future. You don't know what is in them, though I suspect some kind of ephedrine is in them though not on the label, based on the reaction I experienced. These "homeopathic" mixes don't have FDA testing but they should.

I've been getting hives... Anyone else?

I took the tablets for a couple of days and I lost all sense of smell and now my gums are swallow and bleed this morning when I brushed my teeth. I will not use this product again.

I'm suspecting that Zicam rapid melts may have an aspirin component since after taking it 2 days I've had a ghout attack in my foot which is normally triggered by high uric acid levels common to aspirin.

The positive effects have been reduced congestion, reduced cough and the tast is good. The negative effects have been gout, a nose bleed, and although reduced, the cough has been persistent.

I took one Rapid Melt last night and within minutes my tongue started to hurt and I had blisters on it. After that I didn't take anymore and then this morning went on the computer to look up side effects of the Med.
The Drug is going right into the trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Took Zicam rapid melts at the first sign of cold as instructed.  On the third day had an extremely strong metalic taste in my mouth that was so awful it started triggering gag reflexes (to the point I had to vomit).  Kept taking Zicam, assuming it was a symptom of the cold.  By day 4 I'd noticed that soup tasted like metal, and infact everything tasted like metal regardless liquid or solid.

Cold gone, metalic taste not going away even after discontinuing product for two weeks.

Took the Zicam rapidmelts for a couple of days to keep a cold from coming on.  After 4 days i now have some kind of weird taste in my mouth.  Nothing seems to tast right-cherry coke, OJ, hell even my cigars don't taste right (trying to quit maybe this will help).  Some times it comes and goes.  Anyone else having these side effects.

After taking two doses of Zicam rapidmelt, I had this horrible taste in my mouth, food tasted horrible. After the second dose in the morning I developed a severe headache that started in my sinus (so I thought it was part of the cold) but then it moved to my temple and the back of my head, I started vomiting. Ended up going home for the day because I couldn't function at work. Headache lasted all day into the early hours of the morning so did the vomiting. Since Zicam restricts the blood vessels I can understand why this headache felt just like a severe high blood pressure headache. If you have blood pressure problems I would not take this medication.

I took the rapidmelt Zicam for the 1st time.  After 48 hrs I have this awful "metallic" taste in my mouth. It was so bad that it kept me up last night!  Has anyone had this happen? Is it the zinc in the product?

Good product as far as lessening the symptoms and length of a cold but I now have no sense of taste!  I would rather have the cold!

lost sense of smell and taste after using mouth spray in march 2008. Most of the time it is still gone. Once in a while I can smell and taste but not like normal. Just slightly. I hate the product. It's still on the shelves at Walmart.

after 3 or 4 doses over the weekend i stopped taking the rapidmelt. it is wednesday and i STILL have this awful taste in my mouth . its on my tongue.
i also for the past 3 days felt 'weird' - not my self. can't explain that.  i never considered if there would be side effects from this medication.  i will NOT take the rest - into the garbage for my zicam

Have taken zicam rapid melts, started on Friday throughout the weekend. Monday I have trouble swallowing, it hurts to cough and the back of my mouth hurts.  I have stopped taking it and will return other unopened product.

I have loss of taste and smell after 4 doses eve 3 hours WTF

Did you ever get your taste back?  I have had the same thing happen to me and it has been 3 weeks....still taste is not right.

I used the Extreme Sinus Gel spray for 1 week.  Result was loss of taste, taste sensitivity and odd taste in my mouth.  I haven't used it for 4 days and still haven't completely regained sense of taste.  Will never use this product again.

About 10 minutes after taking the zicam rapid melts i got a horrible pressure headache, and soon after felt like i could puke. This lasted a few hours then subsided, but i refused to take the next dose after that.

Burning Sensation and loss of taste on tounge.  Burning sensatin in stomach.  Can't eat.  Have to force myselft to eat.  Terrible dry mouth, tounge is swollen and gets worse and then a little better. It has been four months. very Frustrated.  Lost 15 pounds.

My mother reported she could not smell after using Zicam nasalspray.She said she has lost her  appetite as she can't smell the food. I took her to an ENT today and she was unable to smell Clorox or fresh coffee grounds when put under her nose with her eyes closed It is very very frustrating for her.

I used the zicam nasal spray and my right eye now droops. i have been to my PCP and an eye dr, but they have not been able to help. Does this produce affects the eyes?
