Mirena Side Effects Report #SELF-2452
Female patient reported the following Mirena side effect(s):Since I had the Mirena inserted: I battled depression, I gained a total of 70 pounds, I lost a lot of hair including eyelashes, I have gone through drastic mood swings, and I have lost interest in many things... I have repeatedly gotten my thyroid checked, I run 20 km/week, I eat a calorie restricted diet, I drink 2 - 3 L of water a day. My weight gain is certainly incongruent with my lifestyle. The final breaking point came one month after having my second Mirena IUD inserted when I noticed my bra size went up 2 full cup sizes. At 37 years old, this is not normal. I began researching online and I have come across many forums and articles where women around the world have had similar experiences. If you have a Mirena, please do some research. I finally felt like I wasn\'t crazy and that my weight gain had an underlying issue. I\'ve had three children and each time I went right back to my high school jeans... until Mirena. Most importantly I felt empowered and just had my IUD removed yesterday. I am scheduled for an endometrial ablation and I would highly recommend that women inform themselves before getting a Mirena IUD.
