Chloraprep Side Effects Report #SELF-4255
Female patient reported the following Chloraprep side effect(s):swelling, severe burning sensation, severe hacking cough
I have multiple severe allergies and specifically told the OR team NO PREP other than alcohol. Somebody didn\'t get the message. The day surgery was completed by noon. By 1PM, I was coughing. A dry hacking cough. By 8PM or 9PM, my entire leg was starting to swell and the burning from just above my knee down to my ankle was similar to a 3rd degree sunburn. Red and hot to the touch. My ankle and knee were throbbing and the cough continued to intensify. By midnight, I determined that there must have been some kind of solution/prep that had been used. I removed the dressing and washed my leg the best I could. The burning immediately lessened. The joint pain in my ankle and knee stopped throbbing and within an hour, the cough stopped.
