INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (NO BRAND NAME) vaccine side effect was reported on 01/21/2010. Female patient, 51.0 years of age, was vaccinated with INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (NO BRAND NAME). Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "According to the subject, she received her seasonal influenza shot in left arm est 4-5 inches below the tip of her shoulder. There was minimal redness at the injection site, but no numbness/tingling in limbs nor severe pain at injection site reported. 12-16 hours later, she felt severe pain and stiffness in her neck on her left side (same side as injection site). She had difficulty flexing her neck an rotating. She did not seek medical care but took pain killers and applied hot compression. The pain lasted several weeks, She did no other residual symptoms. She had no history of vaccine-related adverse events. Follow-up information received - RE: Missing information letter dated 1/28/2010. Unfortunately, this information is not available to us. Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "My son had a flu shot on 10/6/09 at his schoo in Texas. When he came home(ny) for Thanksgiving weekend, he said he had a sore neck and severe headaches for weeks. When he came back home back home for Christas break, he was very tired all the time. When he returned to school in early January, he noticed numbness and tingling in his hands and feet. He visited the school doctor, a private physicain, and eventually the emergency room. His condition worstened to the point of complete paralysis. Finally a neurologist diagnosed him with Guillain Barre syndrome where he was immediately hospitalized in the ICU. He has been there for 11 days now. Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "The first symptom was headache followed by leg pain and neck pain. About 8:30 I began to violently shake with chills. I felt freezing and everything was hurting. I went to bed and lay there for 3 hours shaking with horrible chills and my legs felt like someone was shooting them over and over with a shotgun. My headache was beyond anything. It was now about 12:00 Midnight. I placed another blanket on top of me and tried to stop the chills. At 2:22 AM I was nuseated and so I moved to my bathroom where I started vomiting. It was nearly imported to walk due to the shaking. After I vomited a couple of times, I took my temperature. It was 104.4-6 ( in between). I lay back down and waited to fall asleep. At 3:30 AM I had to get up to vomit again. I had moved a bucket near to me and I vomited violently for about 20 minutes. It was now just after 4:00 AM. I took my temp again. It was 104.5. It was near impossible to sleep due to the headache and leg pain. I don't know what time I fell asleep. I know it was daylight. My husband felt my head as I slept and it was not as hot is what he said. When I woke up at 1:00pm I took my temp and it was 102. I took 2 aspirin and went back to bed. My husband came home at 3:30 and my temp was 101. No more chills,or leg pains. I still had the headache which was both in the front of me head and back of my head. I called my doctor's office on Friday due to the fact that he was not there on Thursday. I told the nurse how sick I'd gotten. My eyes actually had popped blood vessels and the inner lids were covered with alot of red burst blood cells? Underneath my eyes there was blotchy red patches of broken blood vessels. They were rather nonchalant about it. The nurse said it was from the fever. I had thought the violent vomiting. They did not wish to see me or run any blood-work or anything. The nurse said my Doctor said I should never have another flu or other vaccine as long as I live. I've nver had a reaction to any vaccine given prior. I asked her if there was something he could give m" noasthma . Patient recovered.

Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "Received flu shot 1/6/09 left delt. 1/7/2009 - Left shoulder pain rated 7-8/10 started. 1/11/2009 - went to sleep 10 PM - increased somnolence through 1/13/09 AM. 12 & 13/2009 - whole body chills and shakes. 1/14/2009 PM - pain moved to left side neck rated 5/10. 1/15/2009 - pain in shoulder mostly resolved, still sore and neck pain 2/10. 1/26/2009 - reports still has soreness in left shoulder, slight stiff neck - rating all pain as <1/10. Pain has been gradually decreasing. Pt stated felt like may have had a touch of the flu. Pt advised flu vaccine has been added to allergy list in case sn poss reaction." . Patient recovered.

Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "This case was reported by a pharmacist and described the occurrence of muscle pain in a female subject of unspecified age (30's - 40's) who was vaccinated with Flu vaccine (manufacturer unspecified0. Concurrent medical conditions included lymphoma. The subject was reportedly undergoing chemotherapy on a protocol called ABVD and was receiving multiple unspecified concurrent medications. On 12 November 2008 the subject received unspecified dose of Flu vaccine (unknown). On 13 November 2008, 1 day after vaccination with Flu vaccine, the subject developed pain in her arm. Muscle pain was reported with onset of 13 November 2008. Pain progressed to her shoulders and neck. Leg pain was also documented. The subject reported that she was experiencing weakness and as a result was unable to open jars. She had shortness of breath on climbing stairs. INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (NO BRAND NAME) vaccine side effect was reported on 07/29/2010. Male patient, 86.0 years of age, was vaccinated with INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (NO BRAND NAME). Patient symptoms: Neck pain, "Initial information has been received from a pharmacist concerning an 86 year old male patient with chronic respiratory disease and no known drug allergies who in approximately 2004 (at least 5 years ago) was vaccinated with a dose of PNEUMOVAX 23 (lot#, route and site of administration not reported). On 16-OCT-2009 the patient was vaccinated intramuscularly with another 0.5ml dose of PNEUMOVAX 23 vaccine (lot# 662841/0626Y) into the left arm. Concomitant therapy included PLAVIX, ~ blood pressure medication~ and ~cholesterol medication~. On 16-OCT-2009 30 minutes after vaccination, the patient experienced body aches. It was reported that the patient was experiencing joint pain and pain in the left shoulder. Unspecified medical attention was sought and there was no laboratory diagnostics studies performed. Additional information has been received from a consumer, the 86 year old male patient's wife who stated the patient had a history of mild stroke and hypertension. She reported that in approximately 2001 (8 years ago) the patient was vaccinated with a dose of the influenza virus vaccine (unspecified) (lot#, route and site of administration not reported) and a dose of PNEUMOVAX 23 vaccine (lot#, route and site of administration not reported) with no adverse symptoms. On approximately 02-OCT-2009 (2 weeks ago) was vaccinated with another dose of the influenza virus vaccine (unspecified) (lot#, route and site of administration not reported). On 16-OCT-2009 the patient was vaccinated intramuscularly with another 0.5ml dose of PNEUMOVAX 23 vaccine (lot# 662841/0626Y) into the left arm. Concomitant therapy included PROCARDIA, ZOCOR, PLAVIX and BENICAR. On 16-OCT-2009 the patient experienced pain in the neck and shoulder immediately. Heat and pain started a few hours later followed by pain in the arm. The patient was treated with TYLENOL and ADVIL. On an unspecified date, the patient recovered.
